maybe you can file the mating surfaces, there should be a place where both touch. You might have to take it apart but it would be worth it. I dont know if yours has it but mine has the detents but also has a lockdown where you can tighten it down on whatever degree you want. I also check that with the speed square.

I dont know which would be best to file on? The pivot or stationary part but I guess it wouldnt matter so long as you can get the 90degree.

I'd probably try it on the sled side so that if I screw it up I can probably replace it easier. maybe. who knows.

Don't your saws have an adjustment for the index? I just did a minitune on my Dewalt 12. A decent saw will allow you to fine tune the detents in some manner, likely by loosening screws holding the index to the base, then square up the blade with the deck and backstop, then tighten the index screws again.

hmm reading back over my messages, I got off subject a little. I got back onto filing down mating surfaces on my circular saw. it only has a adjustment lever as far as Ive ever seen. the chop saws weren't mine so I wont be taking them apart to see. if I get one, ill definitely be checking it all out.

I bought mine used from a floor installer for about half price of new. I spent time assessing it, and found a missing set screw under the clamp, replaced the damaged kerf plate, cleaned of various globs of adhesive, and went step by step through the manual for adjustment and tuning. Given all the moving parts, temperature changes, and moving them around, they will tend to continually get out of adjustment, so becoming accustomed to checking before every use and tuning as needed should be SOP. Even small pieces of wood ships and saw dust on the deck can screw your cut.

Places like this offer most replacement parts you may need, if you are buying a used saw. You can also go to a manufacturer-specific warranty shop.

whenever I find one that looks like a good deal ill definitely read some manuals on it and figure it all out. I love tinkering so fine tuning is right up my alley haha.

I'll have to look but mine is a basic single compound miter saw. I dont think I have adjustments...I could be wrong though as I havent looked at mine that deeply I just align mine with the speed square.
