I have a question about 1/4 round, shoe molding, and other types of small trim.

Do you guys use a chop saw or hand miter box for these items?

I wish I make a poll within this post... so I wouldn't have to make a new thread. @98tacoma27 @tcBob New feature?

Wow Vince. That is nice work!

I use a chop saw with a good blade. However, I have been thinking about getting a little miter box instead of running back and forth shaving half a blade width off.

Have you thought about a shooting board for the small stuff when you're inching up?

Im trying to make some quick items that may possibly sell at our local farmers market...Im not into mass production but Im going to make a few items and see what if anything sells. For this area I think the S&P mills are too costly to sell vs my time and required blank cost to make them. I have a rolling pin, I made one of these and its basically like this...for Iphone, I made a larger one for an Ipad but its a little loose but I guess I could just use it as an example.

...ok, finally, builtin bookshelves project coming to an end!... still have to make dust covers for behind the crown moldings to conceal wiring for the cove lighting, ...and probably going to make false drawer fronts to cover the access to the bases (some wiring down there too) at the bottom.

...if only i paid myself by the hour! :D

The wife and I started turning our garage into a wood shop. Over the last three months we’ve spent most of our extra money buying tools. It all started with a black friday dremel deal at Lowes.

Now we have a midi lathe, scroll saw, miter saw, table saw, multiple smaller sanders, a router table and a foredom rotary tool (dremel flex shaft broke an hour after the first use).

We’re both amateurs, but she’s super crafty and comes up with some neat ideas for house decor.

    My chamfer plane just arrived.

It looks like the glue they used to secure the screws into the body, seeped deeper into the pieces and squeezed between the side, and under the iron carriage. It took a chisel to separate the halves, but in doing so, it pulled a couple chunks out, and split the center carriage.

    20180221_220321.jpg 20180221_220450.jpg 20180221_220355.jpg 20180221_220250.jpg

After i got it apart, i reassembled as is, and everything is working fine. I will clean up the broken parts this weekend, and repair it as needed. I sent the unplugged woodshop an email with these picks last night. I havent heard back yet (its only been a day). They arent the manufacturer of these, but they are the outlet.

I'm not planning on returning it (unless they want it back). I was able to take some shavings as is, so with 30 minutes of clean up and an over night glue-up, it should be back good as new. I'm looking forward to using this thing.

looks like you're already into your refinishing project, ...but FYI, ...i'd highly recommend the following book, she has a chapter on refinishing/restoration that covers some of your questions...

    https://www.highlandwoodworking.com/fool-proof-wood-finishing.aspx

...another book i'd also highly recommend:
    https://www.highlandwoodworking.com/understandingwoodfinishing.aspx

..if you don't want to sand too much, and just want to keep the "aged/worn" look of it, ..you could probably just clean up any crud on it using a product called "wool lube", applied w/ a rag or extra fine steel wool... then you could topcoat w/ a clear finish for protection...

Im not worried about returning it. It wont take much to get it into working condition. I'm hoping the place will refund a little of the price....
