I have the smart key system, and the type D key fob as per page 103 in the owner's manual.
That's the 3 button one- lock, unlock, and "Hold" or panic button, and has the extra key inside of it that can unlock the driver's side door. My question is does anyone know any "workaround" if the CR2032 battery dies- is there any way to start the vehicle? A friend of mine suggested throwing a couple CR2032 batteries in the glove box. At least if the keyfob battery dies, you can always unlock/disarm the vehicle, get inside, and use the special key to pry the keyfob apart and install a new battery. Any other ideas???
I have the push button start.

Place the key against the start button and viola. You dont need a battery in the fob to start the truck.

Pretty sure if you hold the fob up against the push to start button, it will start up.

I must be dense! The other day I tried holding the FOB against the start button- NADA. I thought maybe that's because the internal battery was OK?
Then I confused myself by reading somewhere that if you hold the Toyota logo section of the fob against the start button it would work-- but that was for a Prius??? I tried it anyway, and got nowhere. But I never tried to hold the KEY against the start button?? Totally confused!
I'll try this again. Thanks all!

I'm thinking the only way to know for SURE that the "emblem against the start button trick" works is to take the good internal battery out of it? Otherwise, it's not a valid test because the fob is definitely within the 3 foot range and is communicating successfully with the vehicle, and would naturally start up, right?

Also, when your battery starts to get low, the vehicle will give you a warning before it becomes too dead to start the truck. When you get that warning, change the battery immediately.

OK, thanks all. I'll give it a try tomorrow. I must have had a door open when I tried this.
