My previous car 2020 Camry SE with LDA got a huge crack in the windshield. I opted to not go OEM and the LDA worked as good as ever. One shop told me I HAD to go OEM, another told me WHY go OEM? I saved myself 700 bucks. I traded soon after for my 2020 SX.

The costs have been getting from large national glass shops haven't exceeded 750 bucks fully calibrated. I nobody in Canada goes to the auto dealer for glass replacement. The big glass shops do this all day long and have way more experienced techs for glass. At the end of the day, Toyota does not make windshields. They source them. Just like going to the Toyota dealer for new tires!

I replaced my windshield with 1300 miles on the truck... how lucky haha. Thankfully have glass insurance. I was super busy around that time so I was trying to avoid the dealership for recalibration. The guy who changed my windshield said as long as the sensor is never unplugged the truck won't know a thing, but if it needed recalibration you can just go to the dealership. He was right, it still works perfectly and I have a little over 10K miles now.

That’s the conclusion I’ve come to. Even after calibration if a guy chooses to go that route, it can still be a bit off. But that’s if you care and rely on autonomous driving crap. Which I don’t! I just didn’t want any error codes. The glass shops that say you need it just want the extra charge to help pay for the 30k worth of calibration equipment the bought.

My previous car, Genesis G80, had a rock chip on its first weekend right in the middle of my heads up display line of sight about the size of a quarter. The quote to replace it with OEM glass was $2,600. Yikes! o_O I lived with a filled rock chip for 3 years instead. $750 sounds like a bargain vs that!

California is finally putting our tax dollars to work and working on both the 5 and 99. So many rocks are being kicked up by semis that my windshield got a hefty chip just two weeks into owning the truck. I actually had an appointment to add ceramic tint that week so I'm glad the tint wasn't on before the chip. I'm still debating replacing the windshield with OEM to add the tint.

I replaced my 2019 windshield last septmeberish. got a chip, got it filled, a week later it grew to like 2 feet long. Insurance through USAA covered it, I just paid my 250 deductible. idk what options I picked but I pay quite a bit for it.

I went through safelite and they gave me the report after showing my sensors were calibrated correctly or something. maybe they emailed it to me i forgot. but everything has worked as expected since. some blind spot issues after driving through heavy snow storms, but thats to be expected.

2020 sr5 windshield replacement not oem no recalibration no codes sensor works fine he came to me replaced it in my driveway 400.00.When they change the glass you need to use the old oem sensor. Yes you can unplug to change it over, the issue is that the new aftermarket sensor has a different ohm value so the computer recognizes it and a code pops up.

Just took my 2020 taco to safelite to have windshield replaced. They can recalibrate radar device but CANNOT PUT THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD BACK ON AND IN FACT THEY DESTROY IT WHEN THEY PULL WINDSHIELD. THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND DENIED MY CLAIM. DO NOT GO TO SAFELITE. GO TO DEALER SHIP

I mean I removed mine new cause it was a dumb in sight add on from the port. It is nothing more than a sticker basically so I can see how it would easily get damaged with windshield replacement, not that they are not at fault but doubt dealer would have done better or ended up just replacing the pad.

They should have told you before hand.

Pay the dealership to fix it, then go take the receipt to safelite and ask to be reimbursed. If they say no, open a case over at your local small claims court.
