    This.

MSRP means dick and people that quote what they got off MSRP are confused clowns. Ford in particular puts stupid numbers on their piuckup trucks, why? Pretty simple, its so the guy buying the truck feels like they got a sick deal, when in actuality they didn't.

Hear it all the time. Ford F150 55K msrp, guy bought it for 32K, sick deal right...uh no. He goes to trade that same truck in a year later dealer offers 20K. The question one has to ask themselves when buying domestics is what will happen when they decide to trade in or sell in the used market, the answer is simple, they get bent over, hard.

I've been considering trading in my 2016 Tacoma for an 2016 F-150, I just don't like how the 3rd gen drives, the engine/tranny combo blows and then there's the rumble strip issue every time I come to a stop and some other minor things that bother me. Take it to a Toyota dealership and you'll sit there for 3 hours and they'll say they can't replicate the issue...that shit pisses me off more than anything! I know the Tacoma will have better resale value but if I got an F-150 and liked it, I'd hold onto it for a while.

all of that is null and void if the owner keeps the truck or leases it. The lease residual for a F150 is damn near that of a Tacoma in the DFW metroplex. If the owner buys the truck, they get more standard options for "32k"

If you're looking at the 3.5l f150 I'd wait for the 2017 as they are supposed to have fixed the carbon build up by the direct injection by then.

Meh. Good luck selling a 10 year old Ford for 12-14K, which you can with a Tacoma. 10 year old fully loaded Fords retail for 6-8K. So that 'sick' deal you got in the present on a fully loaded Ford, doesnt look so awesome in the future. No such thing as a free lunch.

I wouldnt get too high on that high horse, because the potential for the Tacoma to lose its podium spot is pretty high. If the Twins keep selling like they are, the Ranger does what most expect it to do, and the Frontier redesign is successful, the Taco will be demoted. I know its a "possible" scenario, but its one that could likely happen.

Trade in value is part of the bigger picture, I agree. But also consider what you can do with a full size versus the Tacoma during the ownership period. One may not have had to rent a trailer, or phone a buddy to borrow his/her truck or upgrade rear suspension to increase payload. There's real cost associated with these.

    just adding my 2 cents.

This is another reason I chose the F150 over a 3rd Gen. We will be pulling a camper on a regular basis when my wife is done with Grad school, and I wanted something that would do it with ease. Along with having more than enough room for our new baby and all her shit

Nissan.. are you serious? They haven't produced a segment leading vehicle for the past 10 years. The twins, come on man, zero chance. The market has spoken. For every midsized truck the twins sell Toyota sells two. The twins try to get fancy and make a diesel and sales actually fall. The chance of the Tacoma losing its top spot is right up around.... never.

That's such a generic statement that you can't possibly support that it's right or wrong. Mileage, condition, options all play into that. You can find a $6k F150 just like you can find a $6k Tacoma, both 10 years old. On that same token, you can find $14k F150s and Tacomas also, with neither one being necessarily overpriced or underpriced. When I was recently car shopping, I looked for a nice used 2004-2007 F150 or Tacoma for under $10k and couldn't find one that wasn't all beat to hell. If I had seen anything for $8k that didn't have 200k+ miles on it, I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat.

EDIT: You're right, there's no such thing as a "free lunch". But from a value standpoint, it's hard to argue that a mid-size truck offers more pure value than any full-size, when you compare space, capabilities, efficiency, and price when a Tacoma DCSB Off-Road is $35k and you can get an XLT SuperCrew w/ locking rear for $35k. That doesn't mean that an individual person doesn't put more value on the other benefits of a mid-size and will still purchase one, which is totally fine.

I'm with you on that. Full size is head and shoulders more comfortable and better at towing and hauling.

Dont get me wrong man. Next truck for me will be full size and Ill be eyeing the Ford for sure.

Tacomas hold their value better then any vehicle, and Fords fall like a ROCK. Its a frigin FACT. What is generic about that?

Should have called me. Guy down the block is selling a mint looking 7yr old F150 for 9K... 9K! I didnt even want to ask what he paid new because I see him every day and didnt want to offend him.

No one has argued that Tacomas have a great resale value, we all know that. But, you're comparing apples to oranges - MSRP, which most Tacomas sell significantly closer to than F150s. If you were to look at actual sales price vs actual value 5 years later, I bet they'd be closer. Take this site for instance - people are always saying "why buy a 1-2 year old Tacoma when a new one is $2k more." The same holds true in the F150s - why buy a slightly used one when you can get a new one $10,000 off? Just because the MSRP is higher does not mean they actually sell for that. It's one of the benefits of economies of scale - the F150 can take a smaller profit per unit, because they sell so damn many of them.
