No BRO-ness to speak of... Well, except Kbro2's
Traded in my F150 XLT 4x4 Sport in February on my 2016 TACO TRD OR 4x4. Although the TACO has it's issues, they are nothing compared to the hell i went through with my F150. The transmission had to be completely removed twice in under 34K miles. Both times were the direct drive clutch. I am done with Ford trucks until i retire and buy the biggest baddest diesel they make at the time.

All automakers have issues. I traded my 2015 Taco in because it had been in the shop almost as many times as I had made payments. Every now and then a bad apple will make its way into the bunch. When you mass produce something, things will go wrong sometimes.

I think an important point is missing in this discussion. A common complaint I read on this board is the midsized 2016 Tacoma is now powered by a car engine. Keep in mind the full sized F150, 3 out of 4 of their engine choices are turbo charged car engines. One of them only 2.7L. There can be no argument the long term reliability & resale value of these small tubo'd engines in a full sized truck cannot be good.

Agree 100%. I forget who it was, but I read a post here of someone who said they would rather have a Tacoma in the shop than have a problem free Ford or Chevy. Not me! Rather than being loyal to a mythical reputation (which will be tarnished as most of these 3rd gen issues continue to linger unresolved) I would rather find something that has less issues. My truck's rear has developed the howl @ 6700 miles. Don't think I'll be waiting out all these fixes much longer.

The 2.7 was put through a major torture test:
    http://driving.ca/ford/f-150/auto-news/news/ford-engineers-try-their-best-to-break-new-f-150

Even the start/stop system that will light the engine immediately after taking your foot off the brake (but not when in 4×4 mode) was put through 250,000 cycles to see if it would wear out. It didn’t. The block on the 2.7 is made of compacted graphite-iron, normally used in diesel engines. Paired to twin turbos, the engine ran at high rpm for a continuous 350 hours in Ford’s lab without issue

Yup. The tacoma is the only one above the F150 for residuals

Hmmm. Sounds like this testing was done by Ford engineers. No biased reporting there.
I know if I'm buying a 6+ year old truck I want one with a solid engine that has some years left in it. Not something with an elastic band that's been stretched to it's limit every day it's been driven. That's just me though.

Correct, the 2.7 (and new 3.5) blocks are CGI and designed as truck engines from the bottom up. That being said, I would have the turbo and direct injection concerns, although apparently the DI issues should resolved with the EcoBoost 2.0 coming out in 2017, with the dual injection.

I had the 5.0 in my F150 and LOVED IT, didn't regret it for a second. Also loved the 4.0 in my Tacoma, it was a great motor for an everyday pickup.

Who is supposed to test a motor before it's put into production if the manufacturer doesn't??

Toyota says the new 3.5 Tacoma motor is superior, but they're the ones who tested it so we probably shouldn't trust them either.

I love my Tacoma, which I've had zero issues. Mind you, I looked at a F150 before I bought my taco off road. But the carbon issue with the ecoboost engines and the high maintenance of
a turbo kind of turned me off. The 5.0 would have been my choice but the truck is way too big for my needs and long term reliability of Ford products turned me off. Besides I don't want
to be a guinea pig for that aluminum body. There have been many studies that show that body is expensive to repair.

You know most of us got into Tacomas because of the reliability factor. That being said, their QDR has taken a big hit in the last year. Looks like Hyundai is confirmed to be entering US mid-size truck segment. Probably will car-truck like the Ridgeline but I am hoping Toyota keeps losing market share so they wake up.

honestly not a fair fight full size vs midsize... Compare the Tundra to the f150... Compare the taco to colorado/canyon/frontier.... Again both good trucks different categories. No shit the f150 can tow more, its a bigger truck it should!!!

My insurance didnt move an inch as far as premium goes, whether that correlates to the insurance companies saying "we dont care if its more expensive" or "we will jack your rate sky high if we have to repair it" remains to be seen and I hope I dont find out because that means my shit got wrecked

While the thread is gone to shits anyway, here is a picture of something I asked Dominos to draw on the box for me:

Silverado for me as the next one most likely once our kid gets a little bigger.

I like the ecoboost but don't like the look of the F150 (unless you get a Raptor).

if i was looking for a work truck i would go F150.

The Taco was purchased to replace a 2 vehicle set up(car & 1/2 ton truck), not a bad compromise, but little left in categories of excellence. Kind of like trying to choose a single ski for all conditions, some days you'll love it, others you'll hate it(that's why I have 6 pairs).
I'll probably end up back in a two vehicle configuration, but likely with a diesel truck(GMC) and maybe the same Taco motor in a Lexus IS 350. Now, I just need to figure out where the money is going to come from... Good luck all with yer pick-em-up trucks, regardless of the emblem.

    Thats not true.

The Tundra, even the Canon and Siera all have higher resale values after 5yrs. The Ford isnt even in the top 10

in the DFW metroplex, the tundra is below the F150 when it comes to lease residual. With Silverado being the worse out of the whole group
