You can still get a Ram Diesel with a Manual, glad to see that, plus I think it has a manual transfer case shifter too.

Yeah but it's still 52K starting for the configuration with the stick.. which honestly is just insane.. it's a pickup truck, not a rolls royce..

    BTW love the fox body..

I’ve been considering a new Tacoma for a bit now. Love the looks above everything thing else. The size is a factor holding me back but more so the engine just leaves a lot to be desired in terms of performance.

I came from a 2015 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost. Took me about 500 miles in the Tacoma to get used to the size and obvious power difference. I can honestly say 2 months in to my 3rd gen Tacoma now that I do not miss my F-150 at all. When I replace this Tacoma it will be with another Tacoma.

On my daily drive to work, there's a house that probably had one of the first 3rd Gens I saw here in Maine (nice Silver TRD OR AC). That was about 3 years ago, so it's probably a 2016 model. This morning I drove by and noticed a brand new F150 parked in the driveway that wasn't there yesterday. Someone made the switch.

On the market as it were
It is what I am stuck between. Brother works at Ford, I get his discount and he knows them inside and out.

    F-150+
    V8 (power and sound)
Sr Master Tech on speed dial.
    Towing
    Drive past dealer every day

    F-150-
Has greatly ballooned in size since my current '02 was built
Any color you want as long as it is gray
    Start/stop - excessive tech
    Stupid deep bed
    Stupid looking grille

    Taco (TRD Offroad)+
    Easier to drive/park (smaller)
    16" tires
Four doors opening the same direction.
    Color options
    Manual transmission
    Bed of usable depth
Looks to be easier to work on (not a huge engine sunk back into firewall)

    Taco -
Not totally sold on engine performance
Dealer is unknown and over an hour away.
Need to find out how a double cab compares to a Supercab

With my brother's discount a Supercab speced how I want it is about the same price as a TRD OR Taco on the build your truck thing. Decked out XL, chrome appearance package, black grille, 3.73's with elocker, rubber floor vs a basic OR. Supercrew is an instant $5k more.

I have an '02 F-150, it has been a dang good truck and I don't really have any complaints. Just looking to update after 12 years.

For resale value, looking at used F-150's I can't say as they depreciate a whole lot either.

Also waiting to see what the new Ranger is going to be, the back end looks a little too Sport Tracish and the cab looks a little too much like an Edge. Maybe the front clip, interior and powertrain will save it though.

I use to work for Ford. In the resale value you are way off. My truck stickered at 52,365 when I bought it in 2015. KBB value when I traded it TWO years later was 29,000.00 in MINT condition. Almost 50% depreciation in two years. And you’re talking about an XL. No matter what options you get with it, it’s still an XL. Your truck will depreciate 50% in two years.

The F-150’s are the most overpriced trucks by a long shot. And the market is saturated with used F-150’s. There are a ton of 2015-2017 used F-150’s sitting on my local Ford kit as we speak. Almost as many as they have new ones.

I’m glad I got out of my Ford. I bought a brand new 2017 TRD OR for 33,365 OTD. There are 216 TRD OR’s with 30,000 + miles on them selling for that much as we speak. When it comes to resale value they aren’t even in the same league. I do not miss my F-150 at all.

Ive had both, 2015 f150 3.5l eco-boost and now 2017 tacoma. Given the chance i will probably go back to a Ford eco-boost. I love my tacoma but it is so underpowered its almost depressing. I had the same king suspension on my f150 with 35" tires and had wayyy more power and better mpg. I will probably sell the tacoma within the next year or so.

I bought my 2015 (which stickered at 64k) in March of 2017 for 38,999 with 12k on it. This truck was probably bought for around 54-55k new (lariat 502a with every option). I put 7k miles on it, a lift wheels and tires and traded it in for 43 5 months later.

XLTs and XLs depreciate like fucking crazy. Lariats and up don’t depreciate like the more entry level trucks do. You probably paid something like 38-40 for that truck new.

No, I didn’t get 12,000 off sticker lol! I’ve never heard of such. I bought mine brand new. I got it for 46,000.00 + TTL. Financed 53 and some change at 1.9 percent interest rate.

That’s a terrible deal lol. 12k off sticker is advertised around here like it’s not a big deal

I've been driving f-150's at work for the past 12 years and put them through the paces (on/off road, hauling, winching, loading, etc.) They do a great job at all that, but hands down enjoy my tacoma more.

I got my current truck with 25k miles. It is a nice range for used I think.

Can't find anything with 25k +/- for more than $5k off of a new truck. Kind of a joke to buy used at that point.

Literally I would be all for depreciation so I could just cheap out and go used again. If a decked out 4x4 two year old XL F-150 was out there for $18k I would be all over that and not give a Taco a second thought. Basically like a early 00's XLT but with a rubber floor. Chrome bumpers, CD player, 4wd with V8, 3.73 locking rear diff, 17" alloys, cloth buckets with center console and column shift... not the typical white 2wd with vinyl bench and the base V6.

Not sure how it is fair to use trade in value as the value of your truck, they are going to mark it up to resell it to the masses... nobody buys a truck at dealer trade in prices.

Dealers make their money off used cars and service.

In 2018 there is no column shift in th F-150’s. All center console shifters like the Tacoma, which I prefer.

This is absolutely not true. First you act like its a given to get $10k-$12k off which is also not true. A 2018 F150 has like $2k customer cash and even a 2017 Platinum only has $4k customer cash. Yeah sure sometimes people score $12k off MSRP but don't act like you can just walk into any ford dealer in America right now and get $12k off MSRP lol.

Its a fact: higher trims levels depreciate MORE. You can look at any auction report or any residual value guide and you'll see for yourself... the difference between original MSRP is always greater than the difference in auction value between XLTs and Lariats. So if we're spitballin #s here its more like this:

Lariat Original MSRP $64k Auction value after 2yr $35k (in this case 54% residual or $29k depreciation)
XLT Original MSRP $38k acution value after 2yrs $20k (in this case 52% residual or $18k depreciation)

No one gets 12,000 off sticker in NC. Not on Fords. I’ve never seen that anywhere in the SE aside on RAM’s, but those things are trash to begin with.

As someone who has had several F150s.... I’m sure you know better than me lol.

I got 13k off a new F150 without even trying. In fact, that was the internet price lol. Drove it for 3 Years, and traded it in for 10k less than the purchase price.

I know, "value" should be resale value, not trade in. Everybody knows (or I thought everyone knew anyway) you get raked over the coals on trade in. Dealers buy used tacos for the same you paid so then they can mark it up over the price of a comparable new truck? No, because that makes no sense. They have to make money so that won't work. You are paying for the convenience of not having to sell it yourself.

I haven't looked in real life but I just checked and column shifters are on the build your truck thing. Kinda required if you don't mandate a full length center console in every truck too... which they don't.

I just as soon have the shifter out of the way and be able to have that huge amount of console space available to do something more productive than an automatic shifter that rarely gets moved.

It must be very regional. In Canada you can walk into any Ford dealer and get ~10k off easily. Every year between July and October you can get 12-14k off by just by walking into the dealer since Ford does those incentives. It's the annual employee pricing.

If you sell cars, then you don’t actually know values, you’re told them by your boss. Don’t think that’s a valid arguing point since it takes 0 knowledge of the market to sell Honda’s.

I’ve had 5 trucks in 2017, and based on my actual selling and trade in numbers, this isn’t the case. 12k off a current model year ford (King ranch F250) 10k off a current model year Chevy (one in 2016 and one in 2015 both LTZ fully loaded) and could throw a stone at several dealers that have 10k off F150s all day long. Especially base XLTs.
