I have a tough time believeing you paid that for that truck. Invoice is about 42k on that truck. Even with special incentives on top of invoice I don't see it being much under 40k at most. Unless of course your an actual ford employee

I know it's not apples to apples but, right now Ford Canada is doing $12-13K off sticker on F-150s without any negotiation on ford.ca, that's 5+ grand below invoice.

I've owned both, a 2009 Tacoma and 2015 F150 King Ranch. They're different trucks, but in my opinion, unless you're an off-roader, the F150 is the far superior daily driver, road trip, and all-around best value. A couple observations from my time with both:

    - MPG is pretty much a wash, if not slightly better in the new F150s. I could regularly touch 20 MPG on the highway doing 75 mph in my F150.
    - The tech and comfort isn't even close - F150 by a mile. F150 MUCH more comfortable for road trips.
    - Parking was not drastically different in a 2nd gen Tacoma and a new F150. They're both big trucks. I would back in when I could to make it much easier in both of them. I don't park my truck in a garage, so that's a moot point for me.
    - That being said, the Tacoma had the edge when it came to "everything working, all the time". As to be expected in a truck loaded with features and new technology, there were random glitches in my F150. But they were never to the point of the truck breaking or anything. The most I had to do was reboot SYNC.
    - My personal experience with the dealerships and corporate was that Ford was MUCH better. Warranty work was addressed, and I always got a loaner. Toyota would do whatever they could to deny any problems.
    - The resale argument - yes, Tacomas hold their value like crazy, no disputing that. BUT - when you look at the actual purchase price of F150s vs MSRP, the resale isn't that much different. I got $7,500 off of a 2015 when they were brand new, and I custom ordered it, no haggling. And that's off the model that almost always has the least incentives. You could easily get a $45k MSRP F150 for $10k off. And that truck would be much better equipped than a $35k Tacoma. Tacoma might retain 80% of its value vs MSRP over X years whereas an F150 would have 65%, but you're saving that 15% up front with the much bigger discounts.

I unfortunately had to sell my F150 due to significant changes in my family, but I miss it every day. For the record, I drove it 34,000 miles in a year and got back almost all of the equity that I originally put in it when I bought it (so it held it's value pretty well). It was an awesome all-around vehicle, and I wouldn't hesitate to own one again. The Tacoma was a great pickup (140,000 trouble-free miles), but it couldn't match the F150 in utility, comfort, or the driving enjoyment factor. The Tacoma was a much better offroad/trail truck. F150 obviously a better road trip/tow vehicle. Just my opinion as one who has had both.

Ill hit you up next time we have a need either fleet or parts.

75% of the vehicles in our fleet are Ford. This year we have done over 1000 vehicles. Our customers have run into their fair share of issues. The Focus and Fiesta, we will never recommend to our customers. Multiple transmission issues. The F150s, recently stalling but a recall has been issued for those. Overall, the F150s are a fantastic work truck. Fusion non hybrid have been pretty strong for our customers. Escape, no complaints so far.

The F150 is a strong vehicle and it may be on my radar in the years to come but one just cant compare an F150 to a Tacoma.

Yeah I kind of forget about the Fiestas and Focus because its nothing id ever be interested in buying. I dont know where they are headed with that but I imagine the end game wont be pretty.

My next truck will be a full size. Looking forward to the next gen Tundra. Not sure all the hate on the F150, they make a nice product.

So they gave you credit for what you paid for it on trade?

Basically the equity I had in the truck for value covered the depreciation of 20k miles

I dont think we have the whole story, if he traded in the taco he could have been low balled there and they made him feel whole by lowering the price on the Ford.

What did you get on the trade, then we can put this to bed once and for all!
