Sorry. Equity to me is market value less debt. You lost me. But that's OK. It's all good.

I'm in the same boat as others, my next truck will be a full size. Just starting a family so the Tacoma works perfectly right now. Once the kids get a little older (5-10 years) we'll need the larger back seat.

Anyone considering a Ecoboost anything should do some research on carbon buildup with the direct injection . There is no way to clean the backs of the valves without destroying the turbo , other than a intake teardown every 15 to 30K miles .( A catch can will help) They are said to start throwing codes and idling rough at as early as 15K . If you add and fuel cleaner it fries the turbo bearings.
This is one advantage to the Toyota 3.5 as it has both direct and port injection . Port injection keeps the valves clean. This was the tipping straw that made me buy a Tacoma.

While I don't have ford ecoboost experience, I have lots of experience with turbo 4 cylinders, Subaru's to be exact. This is exactly the kind of reliability questions I have with the Ford. Sure, new on paper it seems great, but as turbo engines wear, they get really expensive to maintain & needy! Increased pressures mean more expensive parts, valve trains, turbos, gaskets, oil....etc. I burnt through 2 #4 exhaust valves. (man those were expensive to repair)

I just am leery of the longevity of the ford ecoboost with twin turbos, Anyone know if they eat oil like most turbo motors do? Subaru's are notorious for this, I would drive in the mountains and have gone through a quart of oil!

In the market for a new truck, and I like the relative simplicity of the Tacoma in the midsize market.

To each their own, both Taco & F150 seem to be great trucks. I just worry about maintaining the 2.7 mill with 2 turbos over the next 10 years!

They do eat through oil. I had an Evo X myself and its not as bad as the Evo but it still does. Ford had a huge Ecoboost problem a while back, hopefully its fixed but long story short the trucks would randomly go into limp mode.

The older models, they took the existing Ford engines and just slapped a turbo onto it and started their EcoBoost line. Most recent years, they have designed a new engine to go with the turbo so hopefully all is fixed.

They were getting condensation in the intercooler thus ingesting water into the engine. They've made a fix for it but I believe if youre outside of warranty the aftermarket intercoolers are better anyways.

OT: I had an evo myself, 2006 IX SE. I have a Subaru right now, 03 WRX.

Got the same truck with the 5.0. I don't know if there's an aspect the turd gen can beat this truck... Love it

I honestly think my OR rides better than the CCSB f150's do. I have a 16 2wd 2.7 CCSB for my parts truck and its ALOT bouncier than the F150. I prefer the steering feel as well. I do wish I had the power the 2.7L does though. The 3.5 toyota really needs some forced induction.

Not a F 150 but I was thinking a ram for a while. I know the prices are very close for a taco vs most full sized.
But full sized is a bit much for me. I work in the city and its a nightmare with parking the smaller the vehicle the better. I know the tacos are pretty much the same length as full size or marginally shorter but they seem to be significantly skinnier. I don't need the payload and towing as all I'll ever be putting in the bed is camping gear + a kayak which can go on the roof, sometimes a bit of drywall or plywood, maybe a few coils of wire if I'm doing a side job, maybe some tile. I'm in need of a new vehicle soon as mine is getting old and I miss going off road so truck is the plan now instead of another car. I was thinking a jeep for a while but I need the cargo space of a truck for home renos so just being able to move a few sheets of drywall etc, tile would probably be the heaviest stuff I ever load in the bed and it wouldn't be huge quantities that I'd be over loading. That being the case I've had no problem loading a full rough in worth of devices boxes and 5-6 coils of wire and a decent amount of pot lights in my car when doing side jobs and thats in my jetta. Mind you it was very jammed but hey it worked. A bed would be 1000x easier to do it with.

With all that in mind I figure a midsized is more than enough for me and I am not a fan of GM at all, and you can't beat toyotas resale and reliability. I work with plenty of people that currently own or have owned tacomas in the past and never heard anything bad about them (other than the frame rust) meanwhile I hear a lot of bad things about ford, and GM. Plus I'm very happy with my current mechanic, found one I can trust and does excellent work. He's never worked on a fiat diesel, and given he has more than enough work as it is doesn't feel the need to expand on what he works on as he mostly only works on the germans, so that really helps push the idea of an ecodiesel out.

I'll be putting my order in for a 2017 in January, just hoping all the kinks are worked out like the transmission, CPS etc. Even with all the reported problems I've seen here on tacoma it still hasn't put me off of the new ones, figure all the reported issues should be expected for a first year run and they should all be worked out.

And considering the last 5 people I talked to that had an eco boost said they had a lot of problems with it. One co worker had the turbos go after 70 000KM. Girlfriend's cousin had his whole engine rebuilt with only 50 000KM on it. So ya not overly confident in the ecoboost reliability.

Just saw a ford commercial yesterday advertising over $10K in discounts or 0% for 72 months... Got me seriously considering dumping the Tacoma which has a terrible ride, unresolved shudder when accelerating from a stop, fuel economy numbers comparable to 5.7 tundra, lack of power and acceleration causing transmission shifts all over the place, wrong gearing, back seat space not adequate for 5 year olds, lack of seat adjustment and steering telescope length... I could go on.

Bought the Tacoma with resale and fuel economy in mind. I know the daily driving fuel economy is better in a 3.5 ecoboost, especially if I attach a trailer and comfort isn't even compareable. Resale would still go to the tacoma.

The Taco is like a hot chick with a lack of substance. The F-150 is like a big girl with a pretty face that treats you right. I'm shallow, so I went with the hot chick but still looking over the fence at how the big girl be treating her mang...

Ford is adding dual injection in 2017 to the 3.5l, after Toyota's been doing for almost a decade.
