Friggin bears. Got up the other morning, and opened my rear back door on the house. To my surprise i was face to face with a large black bear, nostrils puffed and pulsing sniffing what goodies were in the house. I think this bear would of came in for breakfast if i invited it.

Just don’t use it while you’re in your tent unless you’re down for a good time.

I don't think anyone will respond to this if they have in fact been eaten by a bear!

haha what a shit show of answers.. as a big camper in the woods with bears, yes they could climb up to you. But only if your storing food inside the tent with you. Now that said, most campground are requiring mandatory food proof containers as well. So check ahead, so camp spots US Forestery even providing the storage lockers for their guest because the lack of knowledge of people not storing there food correctly is creating more incidents with bears and the reality is that stupid people not following these rules are causing bears to be killed because once a bear gets food from a source the will keep coming back hence they have to put the bear down and is very sad.

SEE example at Yellowstone website for list of approved containers and more information.

You should store not just food but also any toiletries or things with a scent. I left some toothpaste in my tent and a bear ransacked it while I was gone. Later that night the bear came back and I was face to face with it in front of my tent screen. Luckily it was a black bear and I told it to scram and it did.

It was a hairy bear, it was a scary bear...and it made it way from it’s lair.

I live up in the Pisgah mtns, about as high up as you can get. My neighbor had the wrong part of his window opened. The bear reached in and helped himself/herself to the whole pan of lasagna!

I wonder if he will ever figure out it was me ;)

I went back packing recently, and one of the group members forgot to bring a tent, so she just slept outside.

There was a bear that kept harassing camp sites. He ended up going to our camp. I guess he went to my tent while I was sleeping.

but the women that slept outside woke up with the bear sniffing her face. she was very calm about it, and the bear ended up running away.

we all just started banging on pots and pans and the bear left.

I doubt a RRT would have been much different. a bear could get through that with ease.

I had a bear break into the truck while sleeping in an A/T Summitt.
Wife n I were asleep & I felt the truck shaking.
I asked her if she was moving around because the truck was shaking,of course she got upset and said no.
I hit the panic button on the alarm and we heard more noise. It was too dark to see but in the morning the passengers side window was caved in,had claw scratches on the door and muddy prints.
Filed a report with the park ranger so they can keep track and was told there were 10 bear encounter In the campgrounds that night by 3 small black bears.
No one was eaten that night.
