I've seen someone post a thread painting it black. I've tried to find it again but I can't. He just removed the bumper, took all the plastic off, sanded it down and painted it. It looked pretty good, but then again it was only black instead of color matched. I've been wanting to do the same thing though.

Yeah chrome looks awesome.. when its on a hot rod from the 60's or 70's.

Yeah i figure you can just sand it down and paint it, its metal just like your body panels. But again I'm no painter and somebody has had to have done this on here.

I found this site here a while back and we did my buddy's mirrors and grill with these products and it turned out very good.

I did mine, also took out a few dents. The guy at the bodyshop said he sanded it down, then applied a special primer and then painted it. You could probably just ask a paint shop about what primer to use, I think that is key.

Over two years now and it still looks good. No stripping or flaking.

I have a 2010 Tacoma Access cab and that rear chrome bumper started to rust.. I was shocked and took it to my dealer. Toyota replaced it under warrenty. I decided to change it to the Black one.. :D

I did it as well but youre definitely going to want to get some type of power sander and not do it by hand. this chrome is horrible to sand. brake it down, primer it and then coat with Rustoleum or something like that. you dont have to take it off. i just taped newspaper to the rear of my truck and everything worked out fine. just remove the plastic covers off the bumper.

Why not post a CL ad and ask someone to trade?

i've asked this before, but why not cover it in vinyl wrap? it would require little to no prep and would be consistent.

i just painted my chrome bumper black. scotch brite pad + sanding then tack cloth, then self etching primer, then paint.

i ended up using 2 cans of primer then 3 cans of flat black.

2010 chrome rusting spots...looking bad. I clean and polish after winter but may paint mine to match truck color. Wish I had complained to the dealer sooner. Thought this might be a recall since it rusted so fast since new.
