well off Amazon the bad reviews are really bad. the good are great but there are only like 48 reviews. looks similar to the one in my wife's Subaru (lots of their head units are Pioneer), if it is it may randomly not work just reset the unit it works fine, I've seen it randomly connect to my wife's iPhone and start playing media if she opens up anything at all when charging, but mirrors gps apps and plays music well.

I have the older version (1400 I think), it’s awesome. In the industry we only recommend alpine or pioneer.

The head unit alone made a massive difference.

I won’t own a vehicle without CarPlay now.

I’ve had the avh-1500nex for 3 years. I’m happy with it overall.

If you care about sound quality, replace the stock speakers. You’ll thank me later if you do.

Hands free calls and texts work exceptionally well.

I’ve never used the cd player. My music choices are radio, xm, or pandora. I’ve been using pandora. It’s good except that it often doesn’t play the entire song.

Although minor, here’s my complaints. Every once in awhile it won’t pair to the phone. A simple unplug & plug it back in fixes it. I use google maps to navigate. It doesn’t zoom out so you could look to see which route would be the least jammed.

I had a pioneer P4100DVD years ago in my Taco. Didn't have any issues with it, and sounded way better than the stock radio.

I think in the later 2nd gens, the rear speakers are in the headliner instead of the rear doors.

If you replace the stock speakers with the cheapest ones you can find, it’ll be an upgrade. Yeah they’re that bad. You can search through what others used. Or browse through crutchfield.

heck, the stock head unit isn't anything worth talking about but new speakers that don't have the tiniest magnets, is a massive upgrade!

Not exactly sure. It seems they should be located not far behind the front seats. They also seem to be less of a speaker and more of a transducer. You can probably adjust the audio fade to only the rear to hear exactly where they might be. I guess Toyota cheaped out for the 2009+ models, as my 08 access cab had actual speakers in the rear doors.

Mega upgrade, makes it feel like a new truck. I can't live without it.

Did you do rear camera or is yours in the mirror?

Mines in the mirror it doesn’t bother me much. Looks fantastic! Just gotta hook up to E-brake which I gotta figure out. It won’t let me use some settings without doing that. But I love it! Charcoal/gloss bezel is the way to go.
