Are you sure about 7.5 in Diff? If you have a PreRunner V6 then you have a 8.4" (or 8") rear diff. 7.5" diff is the front if you have 4WD ( Prerunner is 2WD)

if it matters like it did to me the powertrax lockers just replace spider gears so you just install and put back in. all others have to have bearings swapped over and backlash reset. This will save in stallation costs or you can install yourself. It is true that the truetrac is better on the road.

I;ve noticed this now....well how bad is the powertrax? will it lock when making tight corners or is it not that noticeable?

If you give it enough gas it will lock. But really if your turning that sharp then your not really gona be on the gas much anyways. You notice it most when you first put it in but you just get used to it after a little while. As far as noise goes mines been absolutely silent so far, even when locking under hard acceleration

Did you have to pull the carrier and unbolt the ring gear?

That's what's kept me from getting a LockRight.

I always pay to have these things installed, so no actual experience here , buuuutttt :

... my understanding, is that the LSD-type units (including Truetrac), along with the full Detroit lockers , replace the carrier. This means more work, skill and special tools to install.

However, the lockrite-type lockers use the factory carrier. An easier install that basically replaces the spider gears. More do-able by us weekend shade-tree mechanics.

I didn't think that either type requires messing with the ring and pinion gears. Someone who's actually done it should chime in here in case I have this wrong.

ring gear has to come off to get cross shaft out. just mark it and put back on in same spot. nothing a brass punch and hammer cant do. used a 4x4 peice of wood to get back on slowly working ir around. 765bf6c0-2b99-4f2b-b14a-d7e49596f3f6_zps_80cdff328a0f2a0cb1dce22c2c63603fe17d9209.jpg
