front bumper on indigo ink Tacoma looks like shit after 100k miles from bugs and rocks. how much to get it repainted? called a friend that works at a body shop and he said $500 which seems high. someone posted that is about $150 for new skin, which might be cheaper than prep work on mine, then paint. if $500 is about the going price I would rather put that toward an after market bumper, my son has had his replaced 2 times for hitting deer.

As someone in the body industry, let me say that $500 is about right. Automotive refinish materials are not cheap anymore- one pint of PPG Envirobase (waterbourne) can exceed $250. The average labour time to refinish a front bumper is about 4 hours, plus you need to add to remove/install it, pop the foglights & brackets off, sand all the chips out,...
Start saving for one you'd rather have![IMG]

That does seem high. If you remove & re-install the bumper yourself, which is relatively simple, you can save that labor cost. Check out more body shops than the one your 'friend' works at. You'll be glad you did.
