Dealer said they needed proof of me graduating in May as well as a letter from my future employer (even though I already work part time in school and was approved for financing)

problem is I don’t have a definite start date yet from my other employer, since it’s 6 months away and they won’t officially tell me until 90 days out.

Just wondering if anyone else ran into this problem when applying for the college grad?

It’s only $750, but I mean come on, that’s like 2 months of payments

It was no problem getting the rebate for us. I believe the rebate just required verification of graduating, not of a job. Although you should have a job if your going to have a truck payment anyway...

That’s what I thought as well, I was just going to email my advisor and asks for a written statement.

    How did you do it?

I successfully used this when I bought mine in February 2017 (Toyota of Ft. Worth, TX). Was a huge pain in the ass - they acted as if they've never had anyone actually try it before. Eventually got out the door after showing my transcript on my phone (the salesman had to take it to multiple people to show them). The dealership then proceeded to pester me the following weeks (after the sale was complete) to email them the transcript and a picture of my diploma... I complied. THEN they wanted me to come back to the dealership to sign some more paperwork so I told them to F off and figure it out.... haven't bothered me since!

Edit: They never asked me about employment for the rebate... I mean it is a graduate rebate, not a future employee rebate after all!

They just needed a copy of the diploma. They may call the school to confirm.. But it was pretty simple.

We did have to sign some paperwork as well, but we did it all when I picked up the truck..

Nope, no issues just sent them a copy of expected graduation date and current transcript. Tell them no deal if you don't get the 750 grad rebate and they will magically approve your paperwork. Funny how that happens.

Ah yes, I knew it wouldn't take long for another thread...:bananadead:

OP, I highly doubt the bank/dealer would approve you for financing unless you make enough at your part time job already. No one is stupid enough to approve you for financing on a "future job".

ETA - I would just negotiate the difference instead of going through the hoops to prove you graduated.

You would think that graduation would be all that’s required. This is from Vancouver Wa Toyota website. They want within 120 days. Could be interpreted as 120 after loan approval because they want you to have a job.AFE3C874-F0F8-40D4-928E-0E058C17BAA6.jpg

I was done with threads asking for advice about tacoma's. Bought what I wanted because it's what I liked.

I got approved for financing but for some reason the rebate was an issue and I can't figure out why. I have 115 credits from my university for mechanical engineering, half cash down and a job lined up afterward.

I don't know why $750 is such a big deal.

Maybe I talked them down too much? From a 37,300 MSRP to $33,900. I don't know

Yes, I showed the guy my offer letter with my yearly income and even the biweekly payment and sign on bonus.

Still no dice he says. So now I am waiting on a letter from my advisor, and then hopefully they can do without the start date.

Yeah I just couldn’t figure out why I need a start date for a new job if I already have a job?

Ehhh there's ways around that---finance thru toyota get the 750 then transfer it or pay it off. I did this when we did the Uber rebate for my wife's prius

If you pay for it all in cash, won't you save more in interest than a rebated $750? i.e. what's the total cost to you... seems like paying it all in cash would be cheaper in the long run (but I didn't do the math).

EDIT: never mind... I see that there's another rebate program starting up today.
