I'm frustrated. My rice ends up as a solid gooey ball. I want it to be individual rice grains that are a bit on the dry side and only lightly attached to each other. Kinda like my last marriage.

Fried rice made with gooey rice sucks. :annoyed:

    Rinse until water runs clear.

    Put in rice cooker.

    Enjoy.

Use well rinsed brown rice. Healthier, tastes better, less sticky.

I’m a rice pro. It’s about time & ratio. 1 cup of rice is 2 cups of water. For that ratio you will put it on 5 to boil it. Once it’s rolling dial it back to 1 & put the lid on. Your 18 minutes has started. Don’t leave the stove cause u got to lift the lid when it starts to boil over. @ 17 minutes it should start to get sticky & @ 18 you need to take it off the stove. Remember to turn the stove off.

secret trick - rinse your rice off beforehand. Get the nasty starch off

I live @ 5,400 ft so check it early & this is for white rice

Growing up with a Japanese grandma, I only know how to make rice one way(sticky rice as some people call it) and typically only eat two brands, Nishiki or Botan. The biggest tip is rinse til clear and soak the rice before cooking in a rice pot.

Try 2.25 parts water 1 part rice. Bring to boil, simmer for 20+ minutes. This changes with the type of rice.

Ill add some, rinse rice like others said. I use instapot each one varies but what works for ours is 1 cup rice to 1 cup water. Once its done whether in pot or insta pot, let rice cool
line a cookie tray with parchment paper then layer the cooled rice on it, and put in fridge for couple hours till cold. Then you should be able to break apart the individual kernals. For fried rice. We use jasmine rice.

    Yeah.
Rice cooker. I like it sticky, so I just throw it in and cook it. For less sticky, rinse first and then cook. Rice cookers make it easy, you have a scoop for the rice, and you fill with water to the line that matches the number of scoops you put in. Close the lid and push the button. Comes out the same every time.

Instant Pot. For white rice, rinse 1st. 50/50 rice/water. 13 min high pressure then 10 min natural release. Stir.
    Perfect every time.

Thank you all. I shall try each and every suggestion, including the Rice Krispies. But I'll have milk with those.

If you're trying to make fried rice, use rice that was cooked the day before. It loses its stickiness and fries up better with the oil

    Been doing it for years

Jasmine: 1.25 cups rice in sauce pan (rinsed well). Add 1.5 cup water and bring to boil. Stir, cover, , simmer low for 15 min. End heat, wait 5, fluff and eat

Basmati: 1 cup rice (rinsed well)in sauce pan. Add 2 cups water, tablespoon oil. Bring to boil and let it go until water is just below rice level. Cover and simmer low for 20 min, end heat, wait 5, fluff and eat.

Brown rice: 1 cup rice (rinse well). Add 2.0 cups water. Bring to boil, stir, turn heat to simmer, cover for 45-50 min. End heat, wait 5 min, fluff and eat.

    Sticky Rice... My favorite.
You need a large bamboo cooker and urn for this one.
Soak 2 cups Thai glutenous (sticky rice) rice for 1 hour in warm water. Drain.
Have bamboo cooker basket over urn with water in urn boiling (steaming). Place drained rice in bamboo basket and steam 20 minutes. Flip rice ball and steam for 15 minutes more. Put in rice server or bowl, cover with towel and EAT!!!!

No rice cooker ever. Rinse your rice.

For fried rice, I use day-old jasmine but have used fresh in a pinch. RINSE YOUR RICE!

I do 1 cup rice : 1-1/2 cup water. Rinse clean, bring to boil, set to low covered for 17 min, remove from heat for 5 mins, fluff with fork. This is what I use for Jasmine Rice

I just bought a 6qt Instant Pot (Best Buys brand for $39.99 on sale) and made some brown rice to test it out. 1 cup rice, 1 cup water for 15 minutes and it came out perfect. Brown rice takes 40 minutes in my old steamer.

I was thinking about getting one of those. Have a link?

Found it and ordered it. I'm a sucker for a low price and this is the lowest I've seen.

    Thanks
