Don't regret it but my GTO has stick, I get the urge I just pull that out of the garage.

i can do it, but it makes me nervous... oddly enough i prefer driving barefoot. my mother drives her car in all kinds of heels and i always worry that something will go wrong... i guess i'm the one that just needs more practice!

i have a question though - do you move your seat back when you wear taller shoes? i have kind of long legs so i feel a little cramped if i try to drive with heels...

Haha. I'm actually super short so the seat has to be all the way up, doesn't matter what shoes I wear. But man, nothin beats driving a good ol' squeaky 1st gen clutch around... no regrets here! :D

Manual transmissions are way more fun and the only way to go if you keep your vehicle for 200,000 miles or more. Easy DIY maintenance and much lower failure rate/replacement cost than automatics.

Modern automatic vehicles are rated higher in MPGs because they have a lockup clutch and the ECU has more control over engine conditions. The lockup clutch engages SOMETIMES, like when you are on the freeway using cruise control. Automatics still only transmit about 75% of the engine's mechanical force.

Manual transmissions have better MPG potential if you don't drive like a fucking dumb-ass because they are nearly 100% mechanically efficient. On my last camping trip with 200 miles of travel on two-lane highways at 55-60 mph I got 23.5 MPG with my DCSB 4X4 6MT. I think that's awesome for a crew cab 4X4 truck that weights 2 tons. It's only slightly lower than the gutless four-banger 2wd Ford Ranger I used to have.

If you think a pickup truck with a stick shift is hard to drive in traffic, you are a total fucking pussy. The haul-truck driver at my work drives a Kenworth T800 semi with an 18 speed manual, pulling oversize loads in stop and go traffic every day. I drive a Kenworth service truck with a 10 speed manual in stop and go traffic every day. You start out in 2nd and you're up to 9th by the time you hit 45 miles per hour. And you have to double-clutch on every shift, it is not like a car transmission. When I get back in my Tacoma or my wife's Honda CR-V (also a manual), I love how easy they shift and how smooth they drive.

Shifting gears-so simple my 15 year-old niece who just got her learner's permit can do it!

Auto is nice sometimes. I don't mine driving home on a long trip and not shifting gears. However I like cruise on manual better. Can't shift down all the time.

IMO, manuals are for Motorcycles, Sports Cars, and BAMFs who kill the OFF-ROAD. For me, running an automatic is a bit shameful when I'm wheeling with my buddies, but in traffic I think I would kill myself or just drive over someone. I know this because I HATE  creeping clutching and stopping on my motorcycle. <- My $0.02

Nice to see some favoring the AUTO tho. Kinda regretted it when I made the purchase, but they don't make Dcab LB in a stick... that I know of...

Well, OP, if you want to swap to an auto, I'll trade with ya. I'd just about be willing to drive to Cali to swap if you just pay shop fees :p

But either way, my next vehicle (either an FJ or another Tacoma) will be a 6-speed. Long way off though.

Not for a second. Had a 5-speed manual first gen and loving my manual 6-speed second gen. Heard there were some issues with the 6-speed second gens but yet to see any.

Mine being a manual was the deciding factor in buying mine. If Ford or Chevy offered a manual, I'd be driving an F-150. The Tacoma is the only manual transmission truck left.
I learned on a manual and that's all I have owned, besides the chicks dig it.

I enjoy all of my vehicles being manual trans. My work truck is an automatic and im behind the wheel of it 90% of the time. So it nice to get into a vehicle that you have to row the gears in. Plus, alot of people these days do not know who to drive a manual trans. vehicle so is always a good excuse to not let someone barrow or drive your vehicle.

I love having the manual. Sure it's a pain in the ass in really heavy traffic but I like being in control of my truck. I think its fun and it looks cool when you say you drive a manual. When I drive my dads fj (which is an automatic) I hate how it shifts for me lol.

False. Clutch replacement adds to the cost of ownership, as does throw out bearings, etc. Modern Auto's have no trouble going well over 200,000 miles.
False. Autos that are rated higher in MPG have a lower over drive ratio. The OD ratio of the Tacoma Auto tranny is .73, where as the manual is .85. When the torque converter is locked, the auto is just as efficient as the manual, as far as drive line parasitic loss is concerned.

False. Manual trannys still have gears with mass, spinning in a fluid. This creates drag, and power loss.

I don't give a fuck if you drive the space shuttle. If you call people that drive autos "pussys", then you wont be on this site long. I know girls that drive commercial vehicles, so who gives a shit?

Really? My Mom had more manual tranny vehicles than my Dad. In fact.......I know more girls who have driven manual tranny vehicles, than I do guys. FACT.

Now......if this is gonna become a manual tranny vs. auto tranny shit fest, not only am I closing the thread, but Im giving the member who turns it into one, a free trip to Ban nation. Why? because that's how I roll. Any questions, PM OZ-T.
