Your trolling is becoming annoying; the hood scoop is irrelevant, for me at least, as is the locking diff. What I needed was a vehicle which could behave on the roads, regardless of the weather and how many inches of snow are covering them and still be able tow a reasonable load. To me that means a 4WD Sport.

You make it sound like anybody who doesn't subscribe to your criteria for a Tacoma is an idiot, and quite honestly, that doesn't reflect well on you. Like it or don't, Toyota makes different versions of the Tacoma for folks with different needs; get over your bad self.

No. I love my Sport. I don't off-road anymore. I use my Tacoma to haul my boat and dive gear. One thing I don't like anymore is the Black fenders. Those were the first to fade on my Jeep. Was a pain in the ass to keep them good looking and not sun faded after a few years.

I like my sport. I had a 2017 tundra previously on 37s with a rear eaton locker , it was super capable and I offroaded the crap out of it in moab and the mountains by my house but tbh , I didn't use the locker NEAR as much as I thought I would. When I bought the taco, the sport was fine with me bc I really will get more use out of helical gear lsd I plan on adding to it due the snow we get than I would use out of the locker.

All this banter about locking diffs. Not a peep about TORSEN.

Question. I see you have a off road manual. It doesn't have crawl control ? Is that just in automatics ? I've only owned 2 Tacoma's

I was tempted with a Sport because it was an access cab and no one here in CA wanted it and the dealer offered a decent discount but I passed and got an Off Road

MT does not permit crawl control

Perhaps more accurately: “The manual transmission model does not include Crawl Control.”
It really wouldn’t work (and probably not that well) with a manual unless it only functioned in first gear. So, no reason to develop a system that would offer limited utility.

    More accurately, PERMIT!

Consider the instance of Zero ground speed. Imagine the technology of electro-magically releasing the clutch! (Not that difficult with servo actuators etc, but really?

    I f@rt in crawl control's general direction...

I bought a taco to drive it. (Hence the MT).

I believe most MT drivers would struggle to want pay for, or use a 4lo cruise control.

I've had MT vehicles with (regular) cruise control since 1988... and have not found a need to use it. My Taco's cruise has never been turned on so far to date. Not once.

This is aside the fact that crawl control is extremely embarrassing to use. The system makes a horrible racket, - it sounds like the initiation of a self-destruct sequence - advertising the driver's lack of skill to the world for miles around.

Due to where I live I could only get a DC in LB format with a sport/SR5 and I needed the room with the 6’ bed.

I was impressed with how capable the truck was from the factory (for my off-road ability and where I was driving).

Since adding a TrueTrac in the rear end it’s a lot more capable, and while not a full locker, it has allowed me to get a lot more out of the truck.

I really like what Toyota has done with all the TRDs for the interiors and you can’t go wrong with any 4WD Tacoma.

I bought a TRD sport because I really wanted a long bed and you could not get off-road package in a long bed for second gen at the time. When it comes to doing hard off-roading a rear locker is needed.
I ended up doing a lot of mods and adding an e-locker which I really like and I can engage it anytime not just in 4low like the trd off-road. If I am to buy another second gen or third gen I will shop for an SR5 4x4 and then add locker.

5 years in and still no regrets. I have never found myself in a situation where I needed a locker.

Torsen and ATRAC have no right being as disgustingly good together as they are... It basically does the left foot braking technique for you when you lift, no unlocking on rock, and you still have the traction aid in 2/4H.

If you're wheeling an IFS beyond the point that pairing can take you, it's time to start looking at a SAS.

I don't off road so I guess I didn't need the Off Road - plus I hate the black fender flares, so no - no regrets.

Yes crawl control is only available with the automatic transmission. I’m assuming the reason is because it would be difficult to automate the clutch and also because manual buyers probably wouldn’t pay for such a thing.
