I really wanted the OR but no DCSB OR with MT offered here :( Pro was just way too expensive. Had to settle for sport, no regrets at all. Love this truck!

Manual transmission for life brother! One thing I can't ever see myself compromising on is that. But just like you, no regrets getting the sport.

Yep, MT was a must for me. I was shocked when sales lady told me they don’t offer manual TRD OR here.

I also really dig the hood scoop, makes the front of truck looks so much better IMO.

Personally I'd buy an SR5 over a Sport. Especially if your thinking of changing out the wheels and tires. Huge price difference for just a hood scoop.

I only test drove the Sport & Off Road and knew right away the Off Road was for me. Opinions may vary....

What all does this modification entail, and roughly how much does it cost?

Both options require opening up the rear diff. If going with ARB air locker, on board air is needed. If going with Eaton E locker, no air compressor needed since it’s electrically activated.

Well you can’t add crawl control/A-trac to a sport.

    Wish I had A-trac…:pout:

I've had both, biggest difference is the locking differential. However I've never needed it on my sport. Unless you're doing serious off roading you dont need the locking diff. My current tacoma is the off road trim and I've yet to use the locking diff. A good set of tires and common sense will get you out of most situations.i do however miss the sweet look of the hood scoop. I'm still looking for someone to trade hoods

The only difference I care about is the locking rear differential. I couldn’t find an OR with a manual, but a sport fell in my lap. I’m very happy with it.

My 2nd 4wd sport, and live in upper Midwest. Never came close to getting stuck/stranded, where I needed anything extra the OR offer. Spend half the out in the woods.logging/hunting.

    1. The MT was worth more to me than the locker.
    2. Most people with the OR will never need the locker. They'll use it once to see how it works and forget they have it.
    3. They make a 2wd "Off Road". It's the stickers on the box that sell the truck.

I was in a similar situation one year ago - I wanted the off-road just to have the rear locker capability but settled for a sport as it was all that was available. I do not regret it AT ALL. I don't off-road but require 4wd for snow. Let's put it this way - I use the sunglasses holder FAR more often than i'd ever use crawl control. I like the look of the sport.

This was actually my #1 reason to NOT get the sport. I hated the scoop, so I wanted the OR.

They go in the sunglasses holder on the OR MT.

It seems more people care about the cosmetics than the mechanical differences…

Old Man Emu lift, TRD PRO rims with BFG All-Terrains, ARB Front Bumper with Warn Winch, Baja Designs LP6 lights and S2 Pro spots, TRD Intake, Prinsu Roof Rack, ARE Topper with Yakima Crossbars, lots more to come.
We sell a lot more OR than Sports but they all are moving pretty good. I would imagine it would be mostly based on your overall plans for the truck and what your gonna do with it. Having the extra off road features would be a plus in my mind. Kind of like buying a Jeep Wrangler Sport and then having to add stuff to it to get what a Rubicon would have came from the factory with. Can always add the hood and painted fenders.

My OR will rarely, if ever see any real off roading. I have a SxS for that. But it was still simple for me. I wanted push to start so a TRD was a must.

I think the OR looks better and rides better on our shitty roads. So it was any easy choice for me. The locker was just a bonus I may use a few times.

I actually regret not buying a Pro over my OR, but oh well. But I still cannot comprehend how anyone would think having a meaningless inverted pooper scooper is better than having enhanced off road capabilities?

OP, have you test driven the OR and Sport, they do feel different on the road.
