I have driven both and don’t notice much difference, maybe the sport felt a bit smoother. However, I’ll likely change out the suspension either way so may be moot.

If I wasn't concerned with the off road locker etc, and was going to change the suspension? 100% would buy an SR5...I just traded my 21 Sport for a OR mainly for the color but the ride on rough NH roads IS better with the OR

    I picked up what I wanted , 21 4x4 white
Sport, do your research and buy what you like. No regrets what so ever.

Have 2nd gen Sport 4x4 with mechanical LSD. If LSD was not offered, I would have got the OR. In my model year the Sport added 17-inch wheels. I did want a locker and cant fathom why Toyota doesn't offer it as an option to Sport buyers. They could make a little profit. The one time I got stuck and could have used a locker, I aired down and got out of that situation. It is helpful to know your limitations and avoid taking chances.

You've stated you spend 99% of your time on pavement.

This was a crucial decision in my selecting the DCSB/AT Sport.

The chance that I may need the rear locker is low.

If your thought process is..."in case I need it", then go with the OR.

    But, be honest with yourself.

Not only is the answer a solid "NO!", it's actually a "HELL NO!"

With the above said, the extent of my off roading will consist of crossing the lawn with a load of mulch. What I appreciate about my TRD Sport 4x4 versus the TRD Off Road is the stiffer suspension and the sharper handling. Even though I'm old, I much prefer a stiffer/sharper suspension; I understand why the OR's suspension is so soft given the off-roading nature of that model, but that just isn't for me.

Thats what I said...If OP likes the look of the OR better, then get it.

Almost a moot point now, dude is swapping everything out anyways. Gonna make himself a Pro clone.

You're forgetting the SR5 is not available with a real transmission; that is exclusive territory of the TRD triplets. :crapstorm:

You do realize all TRD 4x4 models with autotragic transmissions have "push to start", don't you?

Manual sport is damn near as functional off road as a auto OR with locker.

How badly do you need that locker?

So swapping tires and maybe shocks is eveything?

My main question was regarding the rear locker. I was just curious if anybody with a sport regretted not having it. Sounds like a mostly no.

    There's no regrets.

Knowing your driving preferences ahead of time before buying ANY vehicle is critical to driver satisfaction.

What is it that YOU want?

Get what you feel you want...regrets are not an option most think about...at least, not me.

The Tacoma will at least match your previous Xterra capabilities without the locker. If you didn't need a locker on the Xterra, you won't need it for the Tacoma.

That being said. Get what you want. Life is too short to live with regrets of settling for less than you wanted.

Did you bother to read my post? Or just decide to jump in and tell everyone you drive a manual?

You did downgrade the automatic by misspelling the word, "automatic" and using another term.
