just checked. The TE is $1500 more than TRD OR 4x4 Short bed. But some people looking for a simple truck, would find that the TE is a better option (assuming they want to keep it stock).

If I was in the market for a DCSB, I'd go with the TE.

If you regret it, trade it in. Unless you have no other options I don't see why you keep a truck around that you don't like. I've had my '16 Sport since it was released and it's been great. Test drove an offroad and it was great, just didn't need the locker and I liked the skewp and the paint matched fenders.

I use my diff locker several times/year, but not really off road very much because this truck is way too nice for me to beat up on any trails hard enough to need a locker (I have an old Toyota for that stuff). I mostly use the locker to climb steep hills in the snow or just help mash my way through unplowed roads. A locker is a nice tool to get unstuck in the snow, and prevent getting stuck or losing control in the first place.

Now the crawl control and MTS, they might as well just be faux buttons in my truck. I’ve never used either of those except to test them out. I much prefer the clean hood to the hood scoop on a pickup truck too, so for me it was either an OR or an SR5. And when I bought my truck the price between the 2 models wasn’t really that much (maybe $3K IIRC), and they didn’t have any 4x4 SR5s on the lot at the time, so the OR was it. Would definitely do it over again the same.

I can argue that the Sport is a more functional truck with its stiffer suspension. The Sport offers the same interior accessories and 4WD.

Realistically, it all depends on what type of off-roading that you'll be doing. Good ole' regular 4wd is perfectly fine off pavement in most cases. It's the driver that's always the main variable anyway. I've personally only needed a locker once, ever, and that was when I was 15 being a fucking moron. Since then, I've found it way more practical to just get a specific vehicle (tool) for a specific purpose (job). No one vehicle is a Swiss Army knife... Plus, "most" of the people on this forum are not beating the shit out of their daily drivers, regardless of what the sticker on the side of their truck says. Just look at the threads in the 3rd Gen. section for proof of what they're really worried about.

I do and I don't. Sport is the only way to get a double cab 6MT here in Canada (other than overpriced Pro). I also prefer the color matched fender flares and bumper and hood scoop over the OR. Sport was about $2k less than OR so I can use that for a locking diff if I decide I need/want one. Suspension is moot as that would have been upgraded anyways.

But, the SAK is an 'okay' knife. It works sorta well at everything. I'd say that a Taco (any trim) is like a SAK?

Like all the folks on the struggle bus with the cartridge oil filter, Taco Lean, minor alignment issues, stickers, chrome, tire rubbing, DB lifts, etc.?

OK, so you got a fully optioned SR5 cheaper by buying a Sport. How does that change my point that it is mostly an appearance package? You still paid a similar or equal price to an OR and didn't get all the functional upgrades.

I don't think a suspension you can get for free from almost any regional for sale thread on this forum overcomes the larger rear differential, brake booster, locker and crawl control. Especially at the same price point as a Sport.

I was referring to the difference in pedal feel for "every day"

The only downside is the odd pulsing it sometimes does at a stoplight.

Touche'... my point was that the correct tool is always better.

YES! Exactly... along with radio control layout, flat tire not-know-how, black sun visor screws, invisible paint scratches, everywhere lighting, no issues are an issue, nonsensical warranty worrying... It's endless...

Back in the 2ng Gen days Canada got either DCLB Sport w auto and Tow pkg, or DCSB OR manual - so I got into the Sport almost by accident. After 8 years when it was time to go to the 3rd Gen I was used to the skewp and looks - and know the locker wouldn't get used in my daily driving.

    Zero regrets.

So…as luck may have it….I found a TRD OR in lunar rock this morning with everything on it I want, and I’m sitting at the dealership filling out the papers.

That's a poor summary imo. For most that actually do any sort of real off-roading (not just fire trails) they'll update the suspension anyway.

..and in my humble opinion crawl control is mostly a gimmick that's for people that don't have an understanding of traction.

95% of buyers should pick their transmission (manual or automatic), cab style, bed length.. then go with whatever model they can get the best deal on since all trims are the same truck.

What are you talking about?! Here's where they start.. with a $4,230 upcharge for the Sport. Congrats if 4 grand is a 'hair' for you!

Although I don’t disagree with you, but you can’t tell me I don’t notice a difference in how this truck feels vs the one I just traded in. Maybe it’s just because it’s newer? Maybe I’m perceiving it that way? You obviously don’t know cuz you don’t have the exact examples I had/have. Other than that, you really don’t know more than I do about it, and this is just friendly dialogue about it, so don’t make it more than that.

So a new truck drives tighter? shocking.

Heh. What we do all know is that the trims are made in the same factory with the same torque wrenches, robots and assemblers. So the proof is on you to prove otherwise.

No - love my '22 TRD Sport 6MT in Access Cab. Can't get access cab in 6MT in Off-Road trim which is retarded...
