First: I know pretty much nothing about (car) audio - so bear with me.

Question: has anyone any experience with the Jensen Car813?

I'm looking for a "budget oriented" unit that is a direct replacement of the head unit in my 2017 Taco (DCSB Offroad) - and it should have Android Auto capabilities.

The Jensen unit is the first one that pops up on the Crutchfield search.
From what I understand, this is just a 'multi media receiver', so it doesn't have a radio or anything, it will only work when you hook up your phone.

TBH, not sure if that's what I want (no radio) - is there anything else I would be missing out on?
It also has a 'floating screen' - not sure about that, would like to see it installed in a Taco. How far does it
come out - what does that look like? Does it / will it interfere with anything?

    So many questions......

keep in mind most of this is my opinion, and one of my key points before any vehicle purchase is if i can replace the head unit. specifically so i can run a 15 year old pioneer unit that does everything i need.

jensen is generally a bottom-of-the barrel kind of company.

the big reason that i run a 15 year old head unit is because it "just works". the more computer-like any unit is, the more issues tend to arise.

unfortunately, it becomes similar to buying a computer. do you get the e-machines unit that just barely works for your minimal specifications, generally with parts that have no name brand, but likely won't last for 2 years, or do you go all-out on an ultra-premium gaming pc that has specifications that make the tech counter laugh at how ridiculous they are?

personally, i would highly recommend going with a more mainstream brand like kenwood, pioneer, jvc, or similar. they've been in the game longer, and generally have more software kinks worked out for longer terms. but they're going to cost more than that jensen unit.

that said, the only radio i've ever had stolen in 25 years of car audio tinkering, was a $180 pioneer touchscreen. i don't do touch screens anymore just because of the implied prestige of them..
