Depends on what you are used to, i tried them for the beginning of winter and took them off about 1 month ago, they were literally dangerous here, on ice they are completely worthless and slushy snow, almost had an accident, couldnt stop at stop sivns or lights very well and always needed 4wd. After that i put on my winter dunlops wintermaxx and it was a night and day difference, barely ever need 4wd unless im going off road, and drives well on snow or slush or ice, so like i said it depends what your used to some will say wildpeaks are good in winter but if you compare them to true snow and ice tires they really suck, and if you compare them to regular road summer tires they arent that bad. But the truth is tires that have a harder compound for warmer weather and good resistance off road will never be good winter tires, not here in canada at least.

Just put 38 up front and 36 in the back. I like the lighter pressure in the rear of this truck, felt more balanced and stable and man the rolling resistance is a huge difference just in feel.

When folks run tire pressures that are significantly higher than what tire/load charts indicate, why isn't the center tread more worn than the outside portions? Higher pressures will indicate or result in lower rolling resistance because of a smaller contact patch.

Max cold PSI for 265/70R17 SL tire is 51psi. How is 38 significantly higher than 51 on the load chart?

Correct tire pressure is directly related to the load on the tire (weight). Load inflation tables give a good starting point. Running 51 is for the maximum load that tire size can handle. Stock Tacomas don't weigh anywhere near what those maximum loads indicate (x4). There is some wiggle room. Not all Tacomas weigh the same relative to modifications. Heavier mods would dictate higher inflation pressures.

My focus isn't ride quality or mpg's, it's getting the tread to lay flat and wear evenly across the entire width of the tread. My feeling is that this is the manner in which the tire engineers intend the tire to be run at.

Tires aren't going wear that much different between 32 psi and 40 if they are rotated properly.

I respectfully disagree. A 20-25% increase in pressure has to alter the contact patch. I don't believe rotation plays any kind of significant role in this regard....

Whatever psi you run the wildpeaks, they aint gonna be good snow/ice tires,i treid them and compared them directly with winter tires. the rubber compound is just too hard and thats why they usually get good life out of them. They also dont have enough sipes on the treads, they just dont grip on slush/ice. Just look at the difference between my wilpeaks for sping/summer/fall and my winter tires that i run in these images. 96385309.jpg s051001311_14.jpg

Are your WP's S or LT? My understanding is that the S rated WP's have a silica compound and the LT's don't.

I had good results with the Wildpeak in snow. The P does better on packed snow due to the softer compound but both do fine in my experience. In deeper snow I'm finding the Patagonias to be much better but I still have no problem recommending the Wildpeak as an all-purpose tire. For reference Ive also ran Duratracs, Patagonis and KO2s in the same conditions. Snow is tricky stuff and sometimes nothing short of studded tires will grip well.

I guess it just really depends were you live and what tires you have driven in winter, for me in cold canada winters they were downright dangerous, and to others who live in areas with warmer temps and snow now and then they do okay, i would say they are better then regular summer tires, but not half as good as dedicates snow/ice tires in winter conditions

20,000 on mine so far. No uneven wear. But i am not going 20 to 25% either. 40 warm is about 36 cold. That's only a 10% or so increase. I think you misunderstood the numbers to all be cold psi.

Yep, I did think they were cold pressures....

Completely agree for Canada. I think the guy that questioned winter use was from Arizona. Different animal. Don't think there are many Canadians running aquatread tires either but they have a place in the South. One should judge tires regionally.
