You’re comparing wildpeaks to blizzaks, and saying wildpeaks are dangerous. Ha. Ok. I mean they’re practically identical tires. The internet is an amazing place.

You must be looking at different tires. They are completely different animals.....

Are you sure? Because coming to the conclusion that dedicated snow tires are better in the snow than all terrain tires seemed to be some sort of revelation here.

I have a set in 265/75/16. They are great in the woods and snow. They vibrate a little on the highway but it’s not terrible.

I've had AT3s for about 6 months, all types of driving from highway to dirt/rock and forest service roads. Wearing well, quiet on pavement and good enough in rain and snow. 35psi cold all around, rotate every 5K miles.
They aren't the greatest in deep snow, but my dedicated snow tires with studs were only marginally better. Light rear end on pickups, the winter snow tires always run with 50lbs of sand over each rear wheel well.
Pretty good price for a nice looking and performing all terrain tire. Discount Tire always has done me well, another plus.

Sure. Toyo proxes are going to be better than wildpeaks around the track. But I’m not claiming wildpeaks are dangerous around the circuit. To say wildpeaks are “dangerous” is a ridiculous choice of words, especially when “snow driving” has more to do with the weather, road conditions, and the idiot behind the wheel then it does with the tires touching the ground.

The largest variable in that equation is the driver. If the driver exceeds the performance envelope of a specific tire then he creates an unsafe situation. Every tire is a compromise. No tire will excel in every category. You have to know your tires limitations and drive accordingly.

Many years ago (almost 40) I had a set of Armstrong Tru Tracs. At the time they were the go to tire. They performed reasonably well in snow, excelled in sand, fair to poor in mud, and where very skittish on wet roads. One just had to adjust for their deficiencies. Not to adjust was suicidal.

Tire technology has come a long way since then. Back then radial off road tires were unheard of. Now we have so many choices yet we still have to recognize that we need to adjust our driving style to road condition and tire limitations. The laws of physics still apply to us......

265/70/17s. I have about 600 miles on them but they've been fantastic so far.
Slightly louder ride with about a 1.5 mpg loss compared to stock highway tires.

    Working on that
Here’s a set of 10 ply Falken Wild Peaks on my old 2007 SR5. I loved ‘em, and while we don’t get Alaska-type snow, we tend to get a pretty good dumping where we live and these Falken’s performed great. Time will tell but I listened to my tire guy and bought the BF Goodrich KO2’s in 6 ply for my new Tacoma Sport. I hope I won’t regret

Yes the driver totally has something to do with this, but why risk it?? Dont know were you live but in the north when winter comes the roads stay icy all winter, driving in the backroads all week you better have some good tires, or you will be spending most your time in the ditch or just driving slow, and then people will pass you dangerously, you get a curve and hit some ice or have to stop suddenly for some reason, your in trouble buddy, so in my situation they are dangerous, and i mean it too, when i tow 5000lbs i want to have the safest truck possible for me and the other ones driving around me, just 1 little mistake and its over. Im just being honest here, for those living up north, the wildpeaks are not good winter tires, they will be ok if you dont drive allot of miles, in the city or around town they are more than good enough, but if you do allot of mileage in winter conditions, sluch, ice, snow, snow drifts, they are not good enough, had the duratracks 265/75/16LT, they did a little better, but still i reverted to not running a/t tires year round, because my life matters and sometimes you can be the best driver you want but you cant control other users of the road and just 1 little mistake, can make a difference, and you can help yourself but getting the right tires for your specific needs depending on how much you drive and in what conditions, as of me and for those around me, not many run these winter "approved" a/t tires because they suck in winter, they are dangerous, do not grip at all in cold conditions. Thats it im out,for those who dont understand move to somewhere where there is 130 inches of snowfall on average and try em out LOL

Learn something new everyday. Any tire that’s not specifically a winter tire is Dangerous in the snow. I’m taking my truck back to Toyota right now and demanding they replace my very dangerous stock tires with non dangerous winter tires. I’m checking now for a TSB.

We all get it man, your snow can beat up our snow. Your work is at the top of a double black diamond. However referring to a specific make of tires as “dangerous” is reckless.

Lol watever man, you just dont get it, you say you do but you really dont, and obviously your not in my place, its my opinion, and theres your opinion, based on what? I have no idea, mine is based on years of winter driving experience up here in the cold north.

Im not gonna go arguing with people who live in the desert on their opinion about how different tires work in the sand.
