Yeah that is an option too - take delivery of Bronco and do my own comparison test! Typically I find that selling private is mostly a wash when u consider the tax savings of trading (as long as dealer is within a couple grand of private which is a big if). I'm not worried about trails as this will mostly be a daily driver, and if I go off-roading I'll be in my Yamaha SxS. 4runner isn't in consideration because it won't have a manual (and not sure the new Taco will either TBH).

I'd stick with the Tacoma. The taco is proven to be reliable unlike the bronco. I just had a kid and the car seat is a little tight while rear facing but fits a lot better front facing. It's a little tight on space but easy to work around and the car seat won't be in there forever. Also for 10k extra you can get a tune and some other upgrades that will help mpg and overall performance.

Thanks for that perspective! Honestly I'm more worried about what I'll do with my gear and 2 dogs once the car seat occupies half my interior storage plus under/behind seat access... That's where the Broncos rear cargo is appealing. I know I could get a cap for the Taco but everything I would want in that dept. is like $3k or more and I'm not putting any more money into the Taco at this point other than maintanence. Had a softopper at one point but didn't like dealing with the vinyl windows especially in winter time.

I paid $36K and removed the rear seats. I don’t care about rear seat A/C vents. It’s not a family soccer car, even though that’s how many will use it. Anyone who paid $60K for a Bronco didn’t understand what they were buying. I have a luxury SUV if my butt needs pampered. If cup holders and rear seat comfort is your thing, you should probably be looking elsewhere. There are plenty of plush SUVs to choose from. If you plan to actually use it though..

I actually have a Bronco, have put 12K miles on it, and know what I have. I also have a Tacoma. Ones not better than the other. They both do what they do well.

100% agree with you! My build is just over $40k only because I need 4 doors. Don't really need AC vents when the whole point is to not have a roof lol

Yeah, no kidding. Mine hasn’t had doors or a roof on it since December. Like I care about the A/C, and it’s seen plenty of 100+ degree days.

I’ve had the opportunity to wheel a new bronco and a wrangler Rubicon within about three days of each other.

In terms of ability on gnarly stuff, the Tacoma is closer to the bronco than either one is to the wrangler. The overhangs on the Tacoma, especially the rear will get you in a bit of trouble on a lot of trails with rocks, drop offs, etc.

The wrangler is in a class all by itself when it comes to hitting some of the harder trails. Having wheeled the bronco and the wrangler on some of the in Moab, I can tell you as an impartial observer to both vehicles, that the bronco isn’t even in the wranglers class.

There was shit that I just rolled through on the wrangler that I had to be much more careful on my lines and wheel placement with the bronco.

Happy to hear yours has been a good one, just hasn't been our experience with ours.
I really expected to like it a lot and potentially sell my personal daily and buy the Bronco myself and not just own it as a company vehicle, but at this point i'm glad I hadn't. I fully understand it's aimed as an off roader type vehicle and would have been better with less tech/unnecessary features, but as an aftermarket parts manufacturer we need to see all available options and design our products to work around those options for the people that do happen to opt for them. Ex the front cam, parking sensors, emergency braking/ACC module etc. that ours is equipped with.
I don't trash my vehicles, I do however use them to their potential and seek to determine a new vehicles limits. Ours was jumping forest road water bars and crawling 3 to 4ft boulders within the first 3 weeks of ownership. Every factory skid plate, rock slider, and even the exhaust and rear bumper had rock marks on it that quickly. Helps with my perspectives on shortcomings and where I should devote additional R&D for our products.

Wanted one and was willing to trade in my Tacoma for one but with the ridiculous markups and the various issues I'm hearing about the Bronco, I'm thinking I made a good choice keeping the Tacoma.

You may care a bit more for the roof and AC when you have an infant in a car seat.

Any chance (?) .. probably slim ... that you could find a rental?
Before deciding on the Subaru for the wife I rented a Rav4, and a Rogue for a week each just to get a feel for them.

Have a 2022 TRD off road and a 2017 Wrangler Sport 4 door. The Tacoma is leagues ahead of my wifes Wrangler but the Wrangler never ever got stuck in snow, sand or dirt, always starts and is the easiest diy maintenance I've ever had in a vehicle. I still don't like it much but it has its place. The 3.6 minivan engine is depressing but it's holding its value well.

OP, only you can know what you want, but my knee jerk reaction after reading your posts is that you never really needed a pickup in the first place and will be better served by a SUV.

I think the biggest deciding factor here is that your truck is paid off. Winner all ways around.

Is changing the oil filter on the Bronco as dumb as the Ford Ranger?
