Went to the dealer the other day and test drove one. They had a TRD OR coming with the $8800 tech package and other nonsense stuff for a total of $58k.

$58k for a TRD OR Tacoma. That is not “entry level full size” territory, that is an optioned out full size that gets the same MPG and does everything better.

I have owned 1st and 2nd gen tacos and really wanted to like the 4th gen but the price just makes it a dumb purchase that no amount of emotion can justify.

The downfall of a small displacement turbocharged engine when towing is that in order to maintain freeway speeds, the motor is almost always in positive boost pressure from the turbocharger. A naturally aspirated engine will typically run around a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio when cruising. A small displacement turbocharged engine will be programmed to run around 12.5:1 when under low boost. So, it will always be less efficient while towing. Not that you should be getting a $55k tacoma for towing regularly anyway. If you tow regularly get a full size, this is a weekend warrior truck, which is why they put a turbo 4 banger in it.

You are not running a 14.7 a/f ratio when towing, unless you are stopped at a red light. If any of that were true, you would get the same fuel mileage towing or not.Turbo's are great for towing. If a engine is engineered for boost from the get go, it will last just as long as a naturally aspirated one.

I never said 14.7 when towing, I said when cruising. Yes turbos are great for towing on larger displacement trucks, not small displacement 4 bangers that have to run higher ratios to tow the same weight that a larger displacement motor can at a lower ratio. There is no replacement for displacement when towing, unless you go diesel.

A gasoline powered 2.4L 4CYL turbocharged motor will be less efficient under load than a 4.0L V6 gasoline NA motor.

Toyota knows 95%+ of people driving Tacoma's will never tow anything or will tow less than 1-2k lbs so they went the turbo 4 banger route.

It probably helped that it was a 2019 4X4 SR5 being traded to a Toyota dealership. Kelly Bluebook had the average trade in value at just under 30k for my area. There were maybe 5 comparable (year, mileage and condition) Tacomas for sale in DFW, a place of 8 million people. Tacomas are very popular here and there are very few new 2023 left on lots. That truck will sell with no issues. And hopefully they don't take the Overland Torque Tune off so the new owner has a nice surprise!

As long as people keep buying these overpriced Tacoma's and 4Runners Toyota will keep building them and raising the prices. My TRD ORP 4R has gone up over $10K since I purchased new end of 2020.
It’s not Toyota’s fault for building a reputation for long lasting reliable vehicles that are sought after new and used.

4R ORPs are not selling for $10k over their new prices on the used market.

I know that, I priced a new 2024 4R like my TRD ORP W/KDSS same options and came up $10K over what I paid. Used market is softening up, used 4R not bringing the money they once were. But I don't really care because I'm keeping mine for a while.

I'm seeing trade in around $35K-$36K and retail high $30K's low $40K's right now for the TRD ORP

That's the premium package, not a tech package. There must be an extra 5k worth of port add ons as well.

Yes that's an expensive vehicle. That does not mean all of 4g's are that much tho. If you pick one of the absolute highest priced trims and packages currently available, it will cost a lot. I don't understand your logic. If you want a cheap truck go get an Xtra cab sr for like 35k.

I'm in the tri state area, Wranglers are probably one of the more popular SUVs around here. Every place I look says 20k on the low end for trade in with carvana offering 22. My dealer is just doing what dealers do best.

You don’t understand the logic that for $50k+ you can get an optioned out full size that does everything better? All it takes is the $8800 premium package to push it over $50k.

    I’m surprised Bronze Oxide isn’t a $3000 paint charge.

That was the only bronze oxide TRD OR they had allocated. $58k, lmao.

The TRD OR with the premium package is nearly $52k, without the other junk.
