Oh for sure yeah. This is why I absolutely love the size of 3rd Gen. interior is a bit cramped but I’m 180 and it’s only wife, dog and I for now.

My truck is awesome on trails and in tight city streets/parking lots. Unless I get acreage, I have absolutely no need for HD trucks. My Tacoma does everything for me, like towing, off-roading, hauling heavy loads and I also use it for my business. I’ve got very few complaints.

Damn 22MPGs, that’s incredible for such a huge vehicle.

I recently moved and accidentally completely overloaded my trailer. I miscalculated how much my furniture and such would weight. I also had 400-500# in back of my truck…

It was 10.5 hours of white knuckle drive, pretty stressful. Boy I wish I had a full size. But you know what, she did it. Didn’t even break 4K RPMs going up long steel hills while fighting headwinds. So I don’t know what are all these folks saying that you need 4600 RPMs to achieve “peak torque” The gas mileage was trash, just as expected. My truck is lifted and modified as well.

Curious to see how a 4G would have done in my exact situation.

I am having trouble following. Your truck is everything you need and it is perfect. The new 24 does everything yours does, but a little bit better. And somehow the 24 is a huge disappointment to you? Seems like the 24 should be perfect too.

    Doood…

4G was supposed to be a huge improvement over 3G, and it’s not. I’ll say it again, I have zero intentions of buying a 4G, I’m just stating my opinions on a truck enthusiast forum.

    Have yourself a great day.

It’s not quite as bad as it looks when, I believe, Toyota specs payload assuming a 150# body in every legal seat (probably empty tank? Not sure). Saw that somewhere around here and made me feel a bit better about my sub-1000# payload when taking in to account that it assumes you already have 750 pounds in the cab.

But by all means, please correct me if I interpreted it incorrectly..

I can honestly say the same about 3rd Gen. It wasn’t a huge improvement over 2nd Gen. Like 1.5 MPG max improvement. Interior indentical size. Exterior for sure looks way better IMO. Otherwise, pretty much same truck with like 50 more HP.

    I still love it though.

Don't think it works that way. But I may be bad at reading.

Is that from the manual? Seems to disagree with what I saw somewhere else (which I can’t find), but this falls in to “too good to be true” category so it probably is in fact, too good to be true.

The Tacoma was tailor made for fit mountain bikers in SoCal. Any use case outside of that bubble is going to come with some downsides..

Yes from the manual on the toyota website. I feel that normal hauling for people that need to move goods in a bed it's great. I also think the outdoor camper/ weekend adventurer group will be very happy in most trims with few mods. I'm excited to see it in person. Just need it to fit a child seat in back.

I saw those, the only way the max payload figure of 1700lb makes sense is if by Toyota saying passengers + luggage capacity is around 1200lb, in addition to the "cargo" (stuff in the bed??) capacity which is listed on page 664:

If you look at #131 above you can see how they calculate cargo limit etc. Pretty sure (cargo limit aka payload) = (load cap) - (people)

for TRD Off road load cap is listed at 1200 or 1270.

If someone in the construction trades needs a work truck with any decent hauling and towing capacity understandably they certainly wouldn't be buying a mid size truck.
For someone that only needs a light duty truck or only tows on occasion then the 2024 Tacoma's 1200lb payload capacity is more than enough. I like the smaller more nimble size of the Tacoma,
I would use to haul mountain bikes, kayak's or a ATV. Fill the bed with stuff from HOME DEPOT without getting the inside of my 4R dirty is ideal. Head to the mountain or the beach it's a great vehicle.

I don’t think manufacturers use the above formula for cargo capacity because it would be different for every single buyer of a vehicle. Thats why payload is always defined as gross vehicle weight-vehicle weight=payload. Here’s some numbers according the the Canadian site, don’t see why they would be any different for the US. The range is from 1500-1700lbs.

1500=1800 lbs in the Tacoma truck bed should be fine, may sag a bit but should be able to handle a smarty distributed load in the bed, I would do it and have done it in other trucks, exceeding the ratings.
I'm sure with the coil link rear suspension it's only a matter of time until someone installs air bags in the rear, hit a button, inflate the bags until truck levels out.
I had 4300 lbs in the bed of my Sierra 2500 and it didn't hardly flinch. Handled the load and 20mi trip home just fine. A skid of pavers is really heavy.

Well the payload stickers I have seen on TRD off roads so far are at about 1200 lbs....

After spending the night thinking about my test drive I think I am really going to hold further judgement until I can drive a Sport Premium or OR Premium. I am going to forgo looking at the Limited as I really don't want power steps. A lot of my "soul searching" last night was if it was fair to compare an SR5 to an AT4. Maybe....but should probably compare the OR to the AT4. Or not? Considering I wasn't impressed with the engine as my biggest complaint and it is the same in the SR5 and OR. Now I am just rambling....
