I kinda bought my Taco because of gas prices. I had a loaded 05 F150 crewcab 2x4 getting 12-15mpg with a $400 car payment to my Dad and a 04 Mazda 3 base line getting 30-35mpg as my DD that was paid for. I thought i was saving money untill I got my next insurence payment and it was $1400 for six months (fender bender back in febuary). I wanted to keep a truck so i did the numbers (fuel price, insurence and car payments) and found that it would be cheaper for me to buy a brand new Taco with everything I wanted and trade in the Mazda and sale the F150 back to my dad (he wanted to buy it back for his business). So here I am loving my new 08 Dcab 4x4 V6 6sp Red TRDsport. Thanks high gas prices and ridiculous insurence rates!:)

I traded my G35 for the tacoma.... went from 24mpg highway to about 17.5. So there you have it. (However it works out about the same as the taco's eating 87, G was 91 aka az's premium gas).

Id rather drive a go cart to work than a car that looks like a rollerskate going down the road. And atleast you arent teased with saftey when drving the go kart. Plus you wont have to waste money on tinting out the smart so dark that no one can see you driving it.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
Is that with sails or a flux capacitor??
No way I'd sell mine. I bought it with every intention on keeping for a long time. Saved up years to buy it right, read (no loan). Gas has gone up before and come back down once the population and market forces a change. In the interim I'll drive my bike or car when it makes more sense to do so.

Since we are not driving extended dirt roads daily, the Taco is parked and we drive the VW TDI Golf most of the time. Cannot complain about a vehicle that handles like its on rails, will blow the doors off my Taco, and gets 45 to 50 MPG. As far as Taco replacement is concerned, my next vehicle will be a diesel (TDI) ... if Toyota finally gets with the times and gives us the D4D they have been offering to rest of the world, then I may consider another Taco.

I have thought about downsizing some. But it was only slightly effected by gas. With college coming up, I've thought about something smaller, more efficiant, and easier to park in tight spots. The amount of distance i'll be driving each day will be more than triple what it is right now.

This is what I've considered, except as a white four door.

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was pretty funny. I will be buying a taco in the next month FOR fuel economy. I just sold my 2002 Dodge 2500 4x4 diesel and I'm downsizing to the tacoma. When I bought that truck, diesel was at least $.25 cheaper than gas and in the time between, it's gone to $.75 higher than gas.

I too bought my 09 Taco for the fuel economy. I was getting 15-16 off road with my 4x4 Explorer and would do good to get 20 on the highway if I drove slow. I am averaging over 20 everyday with my Taco and couldn't be happier. If prices ever get to be too much and I am not working I can always drive my MINI! 40mpg on the highway with that!

I sold my 5.7 Tundra because because of gas prices. Quite happy with my economy now. The onlt thing left would be to tow a red wagon behind a Vespa- Not likely.

I bought mine partly for the fact of BETTER gas mileage. My old truck was a 2001 Dakota V8 that got 14mpg. I'm getting 18+ in my new truck.

I bought a truck because I needed a truck. My Tacoma still gets better gas mileage than ford, chevy, or dodge. Besides if I sold my truck I'd have to sell the boat too  because I'd have nothing to pull it with.

I'll just smile at the people driving roller skates and pay the price at the pump.

Finally could afford to get back in a truck as a daily driver. Have an old Ford for a wood hauler/hunter. Left a 32mpg highly dependable Accord to get in the 20mpg Taco right in the middle of all these high gas prices. Even though I could haul most things up to 8' long in the car,(to save from driving the gas hog Ford to town,25miles) its great to be back in a truck.
To the OP, do what was said above and maybe sell the car and try to work the budget to be able to keep the Taco. You already have it, try to keep it.
