I find that when my wife is involved and somewhat in control of part of our finances, she is a very happy woman.

Going off memory, but here goes.

Used Bakflip from forum member $550
    Locking gas cap $15
    Subaru Kicker tweeter upgrade $90
SaBellco tailgate anti theft lock $70
    Rexing Dashcam $100
TRD Pro Fox Suspension (New) $2,200
TRD Pro parking brake relocation bracket $45
TRD Pro 16" Wheels (New) with center caps $850
BFG KO2's + Labor (Suspension install, mount & balance, alignment) $1,100 - my trusted Mechanic baked these costs together
Magnaflow Catback new/unused from forum member $200
LED Hood scoop light bar $100
Replacement scoop tray because I accidentally drilled through one of the studs :annoyed: $70
Viofo dash cam because the Rexing one ate the SD card and can't extract it $100
TRD Bed Mat from forum member $80
Kicker CS front door speakers $95
There are few more $'s in it for odds and ends
All in for under $5,700 so far

    My planned upgrades:
Head unit - I plan to go with Trail Grid Pro's plug n play units. Not sure which one yet $500-$800
Kicker CS rear door speakers <$100
Side steps for the Wife $???

And that's it. I am not planning anything major. Considering a skid plate, but I don't do any serious offroading. I thought about adding a fuse and relay tray under the hood, but don't have much to wire up. I was thinking compressor, but I just carry a portable in the truck.

There is a famous urban legend around the Houston area.

There was a woman, of wildly eclectic taste, who was known for being an extreme shopaholic. By extreme shopaholic, I mean that this couple had many outbuildings built on their property to contain all of the weird crap she purchased. Most of it was art from countries unknown - statues, knick knacks, wall hangings, furniture, and the like - plus a few live exotic animals here and there - and of course a crap-load of live tropical plants and materials to eventually start that grand landscape idea (as gardening was her other passion). Now, rather than cause marital strife, the husband leaned into this hobby instead. He supposedly decided one day to go through the entire property, stick a price tag on everything, and open it up to the public.

And that is the legend of how Maas Nursery became a highly successful business.

(It is such a fun hike through the grounds that it should be ranked as a tourist attraction. If you find yourself in the NASA area, go walk through that wild ass maze of a nursery.)

I'm somewhere between $12 and $15K. The lower number is what is on the truck. The higher number includes what is sitting in the back room pile.

Tires, Softopper, fully armored, winch, many pinstripes.
This year my mods are sliders, skids, front and rear bumper, winch, front cam and Katzskin front seats.
I am most certainly NOT going to keep track of the expenses!

Hey, if you err the other way, it’s one of the worst of those — the “appeal to moderation. So...avoid that.

Stop, stop! He’s a friend. Of course you should help him get a Tacoma. He can’t ride (in) Sally all the time.

Adding up all mods on my 2023 TRD OffRoad Tacoma, probraly would cost as much 3rd Gen TRD Pro. But I don’t like the Pro sunroof.

I established a budget ($7000) based on the difference I paid for a 2022 with 14k miles vs a brand new 2023. So my 2022 with mods cost the same as a 2023 without mods. I ended up going $286 over my budget. Of course I would like to do more but anything more will be a few years in the future.

I added items that improved reliability AND that can be removed/sold later if needed ... until I own it outright and there is a "permanence".

Or I just like money in the bank ...

I prefer money on the bank, and I don't so that much trailing, but if I need some equipment to give reliability to my I truck I would invest it. Because I wouldn't like to stay stranded on a trail.

My truck is a daily-driver. I become a "scared rabbit" at the sight of some trail sections. But some equipment is needed to reach off-grid camping.

At $29,286 in mods. Love the truck and been mainly hassle free for 110k miles. Just had a thorough inspection and the shop said this truck has another 200k on it easy.
