Probably. I also have a CD player, but had an open port on the back for some reason. May be worth checking!

I looked at those add-on kits for my 2004 and decided for the same price to get one of these for $99 from Crutchfield.
    https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Digital+Media+Receivers/MVH-X580BS

Works great, the X580 has customizable colors and the amber matches the stock lighting perfectly. The included mic mounted to the sun visor lets me take calls and the bluetooth streaming has been pretty solid. No CD player but that's not an issue for me. There is a front aux-in but with bluetooth or USB direct connect I have it disabled so I don't have to cycle through it when I hit the 'input' button.

I think Crutchfield included the install kit for free which came with a mounting plate that has a pocket below the single DIN head unit and a wiring adapter to make the install plug in. All I had to do was mate the pigtail that came with the head unit to the wiring adapter with butt connectors.

That should work fine, panel mount. Drill hole, insert, tighten nut, done!

Other than reducing the appeal of a break in why do you want to keep the stock head unit?

'96 base 4 cylinder Tacoma standard bed
Added ARE fiberglass raised cap & Sony CD head-unit w' aux-input
My base '96 std-cab came with a fancy DOA aftermarket CD-radio. Replaced with a more basic Sony, found for $25 in the Pick-N-Pull, which added an aux-input. Also removed the PO's cheap particleboard 6x9 speaker boxes, which were jammed and muffled against the seat-back. Upgraded to a pair of 40-watt floor-mounted compact aluminum 2-way Optimus speakers. Only thing left from the PO is the Kenwood 2-way door-speakers, which sound fine.
Those are hidden behind the factory speaker-grilles.
So far, it works great, sounds great and I can connect my MP3, Mini I-pod, even my cassette Walkman, or any device with a 1/8 stereo output socket.
Something mentioned here is the chance of encouraging a break-in.
My Sony is a basic, button-operated, detachable-faceplate unit that's probably several years old. No fancy graphics or touch-screens.
They say CDs are obsolete. Satellite radio, downloading tunes on I-phones, Bluetooth, etc... is the thing now.
Has car audio advanced enough to make my Sony less desirable today? Or should I worry that a unit like mine is still a popular target for thieves?

    Happy Motoring, Mark

Here's a better pic with the dash illumination turned on.

I really like this thing, its cheap, supports Bluetooth HFP 1.6, the less expensive (but no changing colors so it won't match the dash) sibling is the wirecutter's top choice.
    http://m.thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-bluetooth-car-stereo-receiver/

It's also better about reconnecting to my phone than my 2014 Mercedes but with how behind MB is on infotainment that might not be saying much...

Display detaches if you are really paranoid but I'm hoping it's low profile looks will be not very appealing to thieves.
