I was under the hood and managed to accidentally touch the positive battery terminal with a breaker bar that was connected to the engine via a socket. Sparks flew, pants were crapped in, and now my truck won't start. At first, the dash and other accessories all worked, but there clearly wasn't enough juice to turn the engine (not even a click). Got out the battery charger and it reads "fully charged"... Have I fried my battery?

What does the battery read on a volt meter. Just sitting there it should read around 13-14 volts. Check fuses. There are 3 fuse boxes. One in the cabin behind the coin tray. 2 in the engine bay near the battery.

I wouldn't be as worried about the battery as I would be the computer.

Is there a fuse right on or just outside the positive terminal? Usually a 100 amp or 120 amp on a Toyota if I remember correctly.

I'd check the fuse first. It's your easiest fix.

Actually doesn't look like the have those inline fuse blocks. Pop the panel behind the battery and check the bus fuses

no volt meter unfortunately. Just a simple charger that reads "fully charged". Makes me think the battery is damaged.

you mean a broken connection between the plates?

Just check your fuses then. Do the headlights turn on normal?

I think you may have popped a fuse. Do you have a 12volt test light?

Pretty sure you will see a large 125 amp fuse or something in the underhood fuse box between the terminals. It's not going to be a small fuse.

no test light unfortunately. I'm hoping a blown fuse is all I've done!

That would probably be the alternator fuse right? I'll go have a look. Had to leave the garage for a while...

No, a lot of times the alternator isn't fused or will just have a fusible link. This will be the main power from the battery to the fusebox. Nothing will power up when it's blown. A lot of people blow these fuses when they jump the battery's backwards. It's there to protect the electronics. Bad news is usually dealers don't stick them and they take a day or two to order in. However from another vehicle used the same part number you have a better chance maybe someone will have it in stock

Well there are 100 and 140 A fuses in the upper left corner of the picture. Both appear fine. Could be a relay, but I don't have the tool to check them

This was a battery post to ground short so it shouldn't involve a fuse. Check the ground (negative) connections including the ground strap to the engine.

Double check those 100 and 140 amp fuses. Those should be the ticket. If you had a meter I would say check continuity. Sometimes they blow and it's hard to tell its actually blown

Ah ok well some electronics did work while faintly as the last of the battery appeared to be drained. Had charger hooked up for a little while and dome and dash lights worked briefly before slowly fading. Going to charge overnight and hope it's just completely drained (I think that's unlikely?), or maybe I've damaged the battery... OR maybe I've done more sinister electronics damage. I'll keep you posted

They design them to blow fuses for arching of the battery. The ground straps are like 6ga wires they will be fine
