I actually took mine off road during the test drive. Fools let me leave the lot with it without supervision and there is a huge area of sandy hills just off Middle Country Road in Huntington. Wife was like, "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING??"..testing, baby..testing.

I wouldn't take a TRD Pro off road, oh wait you said OR. For the price Toyota charges for the Pro Tacoma, nope wouldn't take it off road. I'd like to have a TRD Pro 4Runner, but I wouldn't take that off road either. Dealer's are asking 65k for the 4Runner, most of the Pro 4Runners I see are in parking garages.

    Me.

I lost interest in “Off-Roading” the first time sunk my truck to frame.
That was 20 years ago. I got enough stuff to fix.

I guess you are asking why did I buy an OR?
Because why not? It has a Locker - That I’ve never HAD to use. -Yet.
    But if I ever need it, I got it - I guess:confused:

I bought a 21 TRD OR DCLB in Aug. I have no intention of off roading or want to. It was down to a sport or a off road while a limited would be a better fit I do not want a sunroof at all.
The only sports around with the long bed were premiums once again no sunroof pickins as you all know it was slim. Then after researching around here I found out the OR rode smoother then the sport. :)
I also wanted one that did not need a key.
Just the way I am in my old age :)
At least I only paid MSRP :)

I bought the OR because it was the only manual V6 available in inferno orange. I had to do the deal over the phone 750 miles away.

I have to drive on muddy roads fairly regularly, but nothing that a awd Subaru WRX couldn’t handle. I needed a truck because I tow 4000lbs 2-3times a month

I have highway tires, sway bars, and plan to install stiffer shocks and a 2” lowering kit.

What in really wanted is an AWD supercharged xrunner. I would have totally bought the 2.5 Turbo Santa Cruz if it would have been around in 2018.

a 4x4 Supercharged Taco set up to handle nicely on the street has been nice though.

I bought my 21 DCLB OR back in November. My only criteria was LED headlights, 6 foot bed and 4WD. The truck I got was the cheapest of the any trucks I found at that time that met my criteria. Not really looking to do much off-roading, but we do have residential roads in our first due that are not paved.

Define Off Road. In my younger days I spent a lot of time challenging my driving skills and vehicles ability on trails. If there was an easy way or a hard way I took the hard way.

Those days are behind me. If I have a NEED to go somewhere off road I go, but if there is an easier way I take it. Some Forest service roads and logging roads can get pretty bad at times. Plus I spend some time on farm roads where 4X4 is necessary.

you get a larger rear diff with the OR which is better for towing. One of the main reasons I bought the OR

You appear to be correct. It just isn't marketed as a "prerunner."

I think your only regret would be the loss in value incurred in the transaction. Unless you don’t care about such things.

When I purchased my truck I had no intentions of off roading in it . I purchased the the off-road cause I liked the suspension and features that it has . Plus bragging rights are a plus . I always liked higher tier vehicles I hate spending money on some base tier vehicle they feel cheap and you don’t get any satisfaction . The off road worked in my budget also . If all I could afford was a base Tacoma I would of never purchased it .

I think it also depends a lot on where you live if you like to go off-roading or not. For me, driving around at a private pay-to-play “adventure park” because there are no public lands close by does not sound like much fun. Out here in the west, practically the whole desert and our mountains are public adventure parks and they’re free so we go quite often.

I think PreRunner ended with the 1st gen. Now it's an OffRoad trim.

Mine is a daily driver a whole 2 miles one way but from October-Janaury it is also my hunting truck so for me that was worth the Off-road package. Plus I live in SD so 4 wheel drive is in play from November thru April. I'd sooner own an all wheel drive Subaru than a 2 wheel drive truck.
