Installed mine about 2 weeks ago, so far so good. Your range is a bit short using your stock key fob, but it beats having another fob on you. Thinking I might add the smartphone option.

    Oahu, Hi
I ordered one when it was $135 shipped. Just waiting for the truck to come in to install.

I installed mine last week. Works well, easy install. Only downside is short range on the stock fob.

I have that on my truck. I got the truck in January and haven't had any problems. Like another poster said the range isn't very good only about 30 yards. But I can start my truck from inside my house in the mornings. You do realize that the truck will turn itself off when you open the door. Nothing you can do about that.

Copy/Paste from my reddit post a few days ago...

I was in the same boat as you. I picked up a Taco 2.5 weeks ago and traded in my 2010 Caddy that had remote start that I used often. A remote start was high on my list of upgrades (Needed HIDs to be able to see at night first). I bought a plug and play kit from 12voltsolutions and installed it (as well as the add-on smart phone module) in about 30 minutes (they send you a link to stupid-resistant, step-by-step instructions). The standard remote kit starts the truck by hitting the lock button 3 times and kills the engine if you hit it 3 more times. I agree, the door thing is stupid and from what I read, that is something ONLY Toyota does and they do it on all their vehicles, even those with factory equipped remote start. In my searching, I couldn't find a kit that circumvented the door stupidity.

Pro-tip I learned from Tacoma world. Create an account on 12volt's site, put whatever products you want from them in your basket and leave the site. Wait 4-7 days and you will get a 10% off coupon from them in your email. I did this when I decided on them about 2 weeks ago and 5 days later I got an "Alright! Last Chance! You win!" email from them with the coupon code. Both items totaled $450 and the code saved me $45 so if that's worth it to you, wait them out.

    Remote start I bought ($200):

    Smart Phone Module($250):

On the smart phone module. Is there a monthly charge? Or is it just $250 up front?

It's included (free) for the 1st year and then I think $60/year after that.

Mods: Is this still a Tacoma?

Correction, I have successfully done it, as of 2AM PST time. Went to bed 5AM today as I was just too damn excited to have conquered this for you guys with manuals, plug n play less two wires. Tested. Will post a video as soon as we get things cleaned up and install guide done.

to increase your range a bit, put fob to your head when clicking. (this is not a joke, does work, has been confirmed by Myth Busters)

    Mine works just fine.

Loved that it was plug and play.
