Dude, I am freshly retired and sometimes I honestly don't know what day of the week it is. So it should stand to to reason that i am clueless as to when a fucking thread was first started.

The Drain Tool/Tubing in this photo is connected to the bottom of the oil filter housing in place of the plastic connector...removing that screw cap before using the filter wrench to remove the housing.

It's not like the situation does not apply in current tasks.

Reviving old threads has been happening lately...and I'm beginning to pay attention to the start date.

This may be something that appeals to members bored with current threads. (Reviving old threads)

I just figured it was better than starting a new one on the same topic. Idk

You're fine with your reasoning...but you're not the only one reviving old threads.

I was just giving an opinion about "why" it's happening.

    Plus, it still applies today!

If you can't do an oil change on a Tacoma with a TRD skid plate without removing the skid plate or spilling oil all over the place with it on...you're kidding yourself saying you're a qualified tech

Funny, I do not change my own oil. No desire. But admire those who do. However, yesterday I stopped into a Valvoline by my house for an oil change and while sitting in front of the bay, a worker came out and said they did not have an oil filter for my 2020. He said call in a day or so before you come in. I was a bit surprised and asked if it was supply chain issue and he confirmed it. Just thought it was interesting. Not sure if anyone else has had the problem. FYI, I do have the TRD skid.

The supply chain issue on that was basically "we forgot to get some" because I've not seen anyone not able to get them if they wanted them. I work in supply chain and right now - "Supply Chain Issues" is an excuse, not a reason for a lot of things. Some - sure, depends on what but very likely not this. YMMV.

Supply chain issues my ass. There were probably a dozen of the OEM filters on my local Walmarts shelf yesterday.

Many old threads are still applicable and new info or new inquiries are relevant. Having one subject in many many different threads makes it difficult to find the answer you are looking for at times. It would be good to understand the unwritten rule about reviving old threads, is there one?

I’m not a tech but there’s no mess when I do oil changes. I wonder what you did wrong. Maybe use this next time https://www.amazon.com/Filter-Drain...=&hvlocphy=9016164&hvtargid=pla-1196911746888

We never used those as we were told not to. Shop foreman advised us not to for some mysterious reason. Guessing some people in lube tech area would double gasket or something and to alleviate "comebacks" they just told us not to do that. Had to drain the oil old school!

I am not sure how much stock I would put in that 10K oil change interval. You may want to look into whether you really want to do it every 5k. The Car Care Nut (Toyota Master Mechanic) guy on You Tube advises that you really should do it every 5k and not 10k.

I get his point about sticking rings causing oil burn and possible connection to 10k changes.

Does an 10k OCI scare me - not with the right oil and filter - absolutely not. UOA too.

If I was the type to take my vehicle through the "5 Minute Express" lube type place - I'd probably not go 10k.

IME and based on past experiences in M&R on large fleets - oil gets dirty more than worn out. Quality filtration is paramount. I want a filter that offers VERY high efficiency to small microns and will prioritize that over the oil itself if forced to make a decision.

EOD - it's mostly supposition based on "educated guesses" and everyone needs to make their own decision but on a 45k truck - I'll do my own, even at a price premium to know I got the oil I asked for, the filter I want and no ugga duggas on the drain plug/filter housings.

Change your oil when you like. I couldn't care less. All I did was tell the guy to look into it. Get a grip.

Sounds like you would be a good candidate for the Baxter relocation kit.
