Ours is a 2011 with the 3.8/6-speed. It's completely livable when I drive it on Houston freeways, but yes, the 3.8L was a poor choice for the early JKs. It's taken well thought out engine mods and 5.13s to make it drive well on true 37s. That said, it goes on a trailer any time we're traveling out of town, so the motor becomes a non-issue (and also makes it irrelevant to the Jeep vs Tacoma argument!)

I dated a chick once and we were driving somewhere

We saw a lifted Jeep Wrangler drive past us at a red light, I didn't even notice it. But she goes "No matter how big of tires you put on those things, they're still a girl car. So gay"

    Best attitude ever

Yeah man, thank God I don't need to crawl up giant rocks at 1mph while my obese friends guide me over them. Otherwise I'd be fucked in my Tacoma.

Depends on what you're using it for and what kind of "capability" you need. I just ditched my Jeep lease that POS was very capable... of leaving my ass stranded in the middle of the desert:
    23915622_10155857644218674_6282131879103182778_n.jpg

My tacoma had to tow that POS 8 miles back to civilization while loaded down with 6 people and about 500lbs of gear... lets see a jeep do that.

Also high speed prerunning baja roads on my way to San Felipe, no fucking way a Jeep can hang. Solid front axle + stubby wheel base and you'll end up in a ditch trying to keep up at 80mph+.

One thing I did LOVE the jeep for was picking up girls at the beach :) Doors off + San Diego summer and thats where the wrangler really shines:
    18198522_10155240082878674_3796988626548218508_n.jpg

Yeah they're great for rock crawling out of the box but there's a lot more to adventuring than that. The wrangler couldn't even haul enough gear to have fun for an entire weekend, much less trust it to take it to the middle of the Mexican deserts I love exploring.

Had eight of them from 2008 till 2016. Each one more trouble than the last. Will NEVER buy another Wrangler. We do have a Renegade which has been totally trouble free. Made in Italy but much better quality than those made here.

And they're saying thank God they don't have to chop off their cab mounts to run little 33s for their fireroad camping overland Instagram accounts.

I had a Jeep Golden Eagle once. This was back in the 70s. It was an extended Wrangler with a turkey sticker on the hood. Pretty cool until my ex flipped it.

For the first 6 months that I owned the beast, it pooped screws and nuts from under the dash. I collected a jar full. I guess they built it on Friday around 5 PM.

    [cue the rimshot]

Once time I blinked, and it rusted out.

    [rimshot]

I have never been able to figure out why when Consumer Reports gives them so many red dots every year for the same issues that nobody at the company says, "Hey, babe, maybe we should fix that stuff."

    [cue the rimshot]

Now that their owned by Fiat (full disclosure, I owned two: a Fiat 850 and X/19) their corporate cultures match precisely (Have you seen Fiat's ratings now and going back 30 years ago), and I don't expect any improvement.

Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week. Try the roast beef.

You got a dud. I’ve had (just bought two more today actually) close to 25 jeeps, all relatively high miles and they’ve all been extremely reliable.

Prerunning Baja roads? Yeah don’t buy a Jeep. Sounds more like an uneducated purchase and getting mad about something it wasn’t designed to do. Jeeps weren’t mean to haul... again. You bought the wrong vehicle for your needs.

That’s no way to talk about his X, but I’m sure she was more capable, just in a different way.

Had a 99 Cherokee, straight 6. Manual trans and manual everything else. If they made that same car I would buy again, all it had was seats and a steering wheel but one of the best cars on the road. New jeeps just seem like someone still trying to live out high school dreams, too fake

We have both, a 17 JKU which is a road queen toy, my wife loves it. Reliably 16MPG, wanders like a drunken sailor, so noisy you almost can’t have a conversation, if the freedom top is off. Come the weekend she parks her Infiniti and drives the shit out of the wrangler. Me I’ll stick with the Tacoma.
