Anyone consider a Jeep Wrangler?

I just traded my 2007 JKUS that I have had for 5 years. It was an awesome vehicle. Never had any issues or needed anything other than routine maintenance. It was HORRIBLE as a daily driver, though. It was lifted with heavy bumpers and rock sliders and a special soft top that only made it harder to drive in the wind. My Tacoma is the quietest and most comfortable thing I've ever owned and I'll probably end up with a TJ or XJ for a toy but never again for a daily driver.

IMG-1842.jpg IMG-0560.jpg Came across this thread. I almost traded my second gen TACO in for a wrangler unlimited. My #1 concern in any vehicle is reliability and I just question that on Jeeps. The Taco has had a few minor hiccups but I've never been stranded on the side of the road...

If they still made them like my old TJ, I would have bought a Jeep.

The 4.0L I-6 was as reliable as they come, and the NV3550 5-speed was solid. Swap in a Ford 8.8 and a HP30, both with 4.88s and lockers, run 35s, armor up and go anywhere. I rarely had the back seat in, so I had quite a bit of space for "stuff." Not as much as a pickup bed, but enough for most stuff I had to haul.

I especially miss running without a top or doors from late March through early December.

Jeep was actually my #1 choice, I really do like the rough look of it when modded correctly. But the interior feels like cheep plastic and I'm not a fan of having a vehicle that can be pieced out like legos. Also the reliability of Tacoma is substantially higher than Jeep.

Considered one, but had no practical use for one. Versus a vehicle with a bed.

I went and looked at them before I bought my Taco but they were overpriced (didn't even test drive). I decided that the wife and I would sleep in the bed of the Taco and can't do that in a jeep.

Sold my 13 JKU, 6spd, lifted, bumpers, winch, etc to buy my Taco. I also had a 2010 and an 87 YJ in the past. Jeeps are fun but the Taco reliability can't be beat. Off the lot, the Jeep would probably out perform the Taco off road but the comfort, mpg, etc of the Toyota puts it out ahead in my book. I put 100k on my 13 JK but it was time for change. I didn't for see it running well for that much longer.

Def in the both category. Ive got my taco, a JKU, LJ, and and XJ right now. The tacoma seems to be the slowest of them all lol

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
That question is asked on TW as often as the "What's the largest size tire I can fit without a lift".

    Because wranglers suck. Enough said.

Truck drives weird compared to the jeep. I'm used to solid axles, this ifs is like driving a Cadillac with a lift kit. All three jks had huge amounts of issues. Here's hoping this will be better. As far as offroading the tacoma, I can't even get into the trail head lol. Whole diff beast, so here's hoping. Considering I already mangled the tacos factory skids pulling into the camps access road that a stock jk won't touch on. Kind of disappointing. But very cushy. Have to order full armor and rails. Plus it's 4+ feet longer.

The Jeep issues are why I am very hesitant to pull the trigger on one. The issues you speak of were they normal issues or issues that resulted from off roading or mods? I don't plan on many mods or rock crawling it would be mostly for everyday and the occasional fire access road on the weekend..

I’ve had probably 15 Jeeps. All but 2 have had over 100k on them, never had an issue.

    I’ve had An

    08 jk
    08 jk
    08 JKU
    14 JKUR
    16 JKU

All with 0 issues except for an oil leak on two of the 08s. The reliability of the new ones has been pretty damn good to me. I will grab a JLUR when my girlfriend finishes nursing school. They’re awesome vehicles, but not DD material

My porsche 911 can carry more gear than the wrangler so we picked up the Tacoma for camping...Although I'm still considering picking up a wrangler for tight trails and parking at the beach.

I like keeping DDs and projects separate. I try and limit myself on the truck, and it's great for true daily use. Drive the toys to get rid of some mileage and blow up on the weekends. I looked at a 2010 Rubicon a while back, was real nice, but meh - I like the older truer Jeeps.

My wife has a new 2018 JL unlimited sport. My friend who has a 2015 JKUR commented that the new JL's drive a lot nicer than the older jeeps but I can only comment on the JL. Wrangler and Tacoma are different vehicles....get what you like. Both my Tacoma and the wrangler have been very good so far.

No, never considered a Wrangler, but I wouldn't mind having a tricked out bad a$$ Rubicon as a second vehicle.

I had three Jk's, a 12,15,17 and all the issues I had were factory components, tons of trans problems. Haven't had one last 30k before I got rid of it due to monthly shop visits. Slave cylinder, master cylinder, tob, pressure plate, LSD, a.c. Compressor, ball joints, heating system, head gasket, factory bolts snapping, cylinder heads and piston, steering shaft, radio, batteries, leaking top, steering box, and bunch more. Really was constant. Everytime I replaced something that I could swap for aftermarket I did. Tie rod was the only thing a mangled. And tons of transmission issues. I had the world's most capable machine if and when it was working. For what it's worth, I looked at the JL before the Taco and would've been lots cheaper to go the jeep, most of my stuff would've parted over. Went this way for some hopeful reliability. And some fun. I’ve never had a truck or a Toyota or have ever been in a taco before this. Just saying
