Engine is broken in on a dyno before installed in the truck. Just drive and enjoy

I don't know if Honda is the same as Toyota. But I know for a fact that not every Honda engine is fired up before installation. Just the odd one.

Every motorcycle, sports car, truck whatever I have owned I drive it like I
am going to to drive it and have never had a problem. I work as a diesel
mechanic working on semi tractor engines. Once we get an overhaul done
I strap the truck on the dyno for 2 to 3 hours of run time varying speeds and load.
The main reason is to seat the rings. Lot of drivers like to idle for long
periods of time and next thing you know they come back complaining
    of oil consumption.
Granted diesel engines are different from gas engines
but they all have pistons, rings, rods, bearings etc. So drive it like
you will be driving it. Now if you bought from a dealer who will go out of
their way to try and deny warranty claims, may be a different story.
I assume the ecm's log rpm, speed etc and if you have engine failure
that is probably the first place they look. I have 1700 miles on mine
right now and have run it pretty good a few times.
People complain about the lack of power with these trucks but I say WHAT?
The 6 cylinder in these trucks runs damn good if you just PUSH that
go pedal, makes me smile everytime. The ECT button pushed in
doesn't hurt either. Enjoy your truck.

P.S. We always use to say and sometimes still do,
Drive it like you stole it!!

Lol thanks for the info Tom. I was running it in manual mode and shifting at higher rpms and engine breaking a lot. Hurts my soul shifting it at higher rpms tho not knowing if the engine was fully broke in or not. I would have got the manual trans but being 6' 5" I don't quite fit as well as I would of wished lol.

Except now when you let a diesel idle it screws up the dpf and we all know how smart truck drivers are. You tell them one thing and they know better.

Yup. I work on Caterpillar engines and the regen crap was pretty bad there for
a while. Majority of the bugs worked out now. But yeah, is hard sometimes to get
some drivers to understand that they can't do certain things.
Now that some of the heavy equipment has regen systems it is really
getting crazy because these guys do not like to stop if there is an issue.

Hate to say it but I have had a couple vehicles like that, lol.
Driven in the summer stored in the winter and then, OOH OOH
a new model, must have. I was to the point of trading every year
or every other year, just can't be happy with something for a
    while I guess. o_O

Forgot to mention that a guy I work with says that
I trade a lot because the new car smell has gone. :boink:

100 percent correct. They aren't fired until they roll off thenline. I remember seeing a handful that would not crank and had to be pushed. Haha

Honda engines are in pieces until engine assembly.

Knowing what I know now, I would have done the diff fluids at 500 instead of 5,000 and babied it for the first 2,500.

More than anything, thermal degradation of the fluid in a new gear set.

Take it to the dealer and get the transmission fluid level checked. That's the most important break-in for the 3rd gen
