Looking to see if anyone has or is planning to do a swap from the 3.73 to the 4.10 gears that come in the 2.7 L into their 4.0L?

I'm debating swapping front and rear 3rd's in from a totaled 2010 into my 13 since my front diff bearings are shot. I can't afford new new all around but found a killer deal on a complete set. The front and rear axle are from a manual but I shouldn't have any issue putting it into my auto, right? Straight bolt up?

Front diffs are the same physical setup (outside of gearing) rear, so long as the truck its going in does not have an elocker (its the same "8.4" rear axle as the i4 4x4) then you are good to go.

Well thank you very much! It'll be going on my sport so no E-Locker for me. Gonna pull the trigger.

Yes I have regeared my 4.0 with 4.10s out of a 4 banger. Got the complete front diff from a wrecked taco and the rear ring and pinion was donated from my 4 cyl taco.

I call it the poor mans regear because I had about 500 bucks total in it for front and rear

That's good to know since that's what I'll be getting mine out of as well. Wrecked but both front and rear are in good shape with minimal miles on them.

I run 4.10s and 255/75/17 on my 2007 4.0 and love it, I had the diffs/e-locker from another project and it was an easy swap. I think I'm slightly over-geared from factory and the 4.0/auto seem very happy.

Edit: my front diff was from a 2014 with a 4cyl and 5 speed, and my rear diff was from an 03 (yes first gen) tacoma with a v6, auto and e locker. Both bolted in with no issues.

My 4.10 setup will be for sale in northern CA in the coming weeks if anyone is interested. Complete front clamshell, rear axle housing and e locker, but no shafts.

    bump for research purposes

if anyone does 4.10 swap, does that avoid special tooling for diff work?
Sounds to me like it does and that it's simply a matter of replacing your stock 3.73 front diff with a whole unit from a 4.10 truck,
and unbolting your rear diff from the axle housing to swap in 4.10 from a donor truck.

so because the actual diff itself is not taken apart there is none of that specialist stuff regarding specific tools, etc.

It should be remove and replace with the bolts holding the front diff to the diff tube and the mounts and the rear diff to the housing.
