Anyone else’s headlights “peeling”?

Does anyone know for certain what the factory coating is? Is it just your standard clear they use on the sheet metal?

 

I wonder if this is a warranty thing?

 

I think it should be. If my paint’s clear was coming off it would be.

 

I would absolutely hope so. There is no reason for fading/peeling headlamps on such a new vehicle. Waxed or unwaxed. Polycarbonate headlights that barely last past the warranty period have been foisted upon consumers since the 90s. My mothers 1994 landcruiser meanwhile looks brand new with its original glass lamps. Crazy that a yellow set of headlight can make an otherwise decent vehicle look like a hoopty. Hmmm.......

 

Same thing is happening to my 17'. I took it in and had the dealership document it. They said they had to send in the paperwork to the manufacturer to see if it is something they will replace on their dime. If not it would be out of my pocket. I need to call in for an update because I haven't heard from them in about 2 weeks. Hopefully they'll cover it. I do have aftermarket HID lights and hopefully they don't use that as an excuse to void the warranty.

 

That isn't a good sign. D156 is good stuff and I have used it for years without peeling on any of my headlights or my plastic trim even fading.

 

This is going to be more and more common with all these bulging headlights that have much of the lens pointing directly to the sky.

The clear bra protectors are also risky .I have seen many leave it on so long that the adhesive fuses to the headlight, and the protector itself starts to degrade.

All you can do to slow the process is coat the headlights religiously. Ideally with a product made for headlights. I use optilens.

Even garaged vehicles get the cloudiness starting at the top of the lenses unless you work at home or are retired and the car sits inside all day.

Im in south FL and the sun here is brutal.

 

Today's giant bulbous headlights aren't even good looking before they start peeling. Luckily i am in the Midwest and the sun isn't near as harsh. However, not waxing your crap will make lights here cloudy in just a few years as well. I haven't had any go to shit on my watch, but lots of my family and friends have. They just don't take care of their vehicles.

I will not be happy if mine go to shit in 3 years even with meticulous care!

can you send me a picture of the maintenance form/receipt they gave you after they replaced your headlight?

I have one that is starting to peel and I feel that my local dealership is not going to want to replace it.

Has anyone else had their peeling headlights replaced under warranty?

 

I also added body armor to my headlights and fog lights

 

Was searching about this topic tonight, and to my surprise I came across this post I wrote just 11 months ago... with both of my headlights now peeling. Lets see what the dealer is going to say

My 2016 was doing the exact same thing. It only gets the evening sun on it.

Right on.I did a black headlight mod. so I’m thinking they are going to say something about that.
I will give it a shot tomorrow.
