Holy shit, thats really early for headlights to start peeling. My previous truck was 07, had it for 7 years. Religiously waxed headlights, and the results were great. My dad asked me if my headlights were made from glass haha, just plastic obviously. My truck sat in the sun on weekdays.

I hope this doesnt happen to my tacos headlights. Im pretty anal about my truck and been waxing them since it was new. This truck also sits in the sun on weekdays but so far its fine.

16K on my 18 and one of them is starting this. Going to ask about it when I take it in for the 20K oil change.

Mine are. '17 with 32k miles. I'm surprised the dealership has warrantied them for anyone. I'll have to consider taking mine in but even if they will replace them I'm not sure it's worth letting the hacks get their hands on it. Plus, I'd have to rip out my HIDs. Wish they would just give me the replacement housings and I'd be on my way. Anyone who has had them replaced under warranty, did they let you keep the old ones? Needless to say they are pricey parts...

I noticed that my coating had started peeling a few months back, but just brushed off any notion of Toyota replacing them thinking that they would be considered wear and tear. I did some research and came across these posts and decided to head to the dealership to let them look at it. The advisor looked at it, then went and got the service Manager to look at it and he agreed that it should not be happening and said that it will be covered under the Basic 3 year/36K warranty. He said he hasn’t seen a Tacoma with that problem yet and had the advisor take pictures to establish a case report for Toyota. While there I also mentioned the black rubberized roof railing was fading and they agreed that it will be replaced also. They said they will be opening a repair order and will call when the parts are in, keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for a phone call.

    ** UPDATE**
Toyota replaced both of my headlamps under the Basic Warranty. The Advisor was shocked, she told me they were $1400 a piece. Glad I inquired about the peeling after reading posts here on TW. If yours show any signs of peeling, take them in and have it documented and hopefully replaced.

I had the same thing happen. Lucky it was covered under warranty. This is what I did as a preventative measure for future.

Mine are doing this as well at 91k. I'm almost out of my extended warranty. I'll probably wet sand and cc.

Had my 2016 tacoma since late 2015. Been 5 years now and I don’t have any peeling or fading. I park in the sun too and don’t do anything special to it besides wash it once a month. I’d figure humidity and climate is a factor.

I got the idea off a Tundra forum. You need to make a stencil out of painters tape first. Add a few layers of painters tape directly on the lens and shape the upper area of the lens. Gently peel off your new stencil mask. Trace it on a piece of cardboard as you will need to use this as a template for tracing on to vinyl for both left and right side of the headlight (1 side right/ 1 side left). Cut and apply vinyl with a heat gun.
