Anyone else experiencing this problem with their 2016's A/T?

I thought I seen a post a few weeks back referenced to another A/T issue with the 2016's. I attempted to locate that post, however, was unable to do so.

Maybe someone else is experiencing the below described issue? My truck is scheduled to go to the dealer this Friday (1-6-17) for this issue.

Basically, before the truck reaches its normal operating temperature the transmission will bang or thump during the 2nd to 1st gear downshift, just before a stop. The downshift banging and thumping is most noticeable when the temperature gauge needle is sitting dead on the 2nd bold mark. At normal operating temperature, the transmission is smooth as glass on both the up and downshifts. Let the truck sit over night or for a few hours and that downshift banging returns.

All TSB's have been installed and the downshift bang is still present.

    Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I'm hoping to get some feed back before going to the dealership, I want to arm myself with as much information about this issue as possible so I can defend myself against any bullshit they push at me.

I'll post the dealer's response to my concern this Friday.

    Thanks for your help!

I have this issue as well. I heard that a "rev 2" transmission TSB is in the works to correct this problem. not sure if that's true or not, just passing along what I've heard...

Yepp. Have had the same issue, had the dealer tell me they couldn't replicate it. All they said was they can have a different tech test drive it again.

Mine does not do it ever . I do have a very slight rumbling from 30 down to 10 mph when stopping ,like driving over a washboard road . I have only had the original TSB done .

sounds like you should have the driveline vibration TSB done!

I have an OR long box and do not think it is included in that TSB. I do plan to ask about it at my 5000 ck. coming up though .

Do you need to know, or care?
Mine does it. Some call it axle wrap, dealer will call it normal.

Mine had it...I asked dealer to check fluid, as it don't happen when fluid warms up.. THey said NO, and would charge me, so I did it myself...
    3/4 Liter low..... Problem solved...!!
If your issue is only when fluid is cold, I'd think it's low, as the fluid expands substantially when warm/hot.

Mine does the same. Yes, dealer said they couldn't replicate it.

They also said there is not TSB for 2017 so they refused to do any firmware update.

How did you check and fill the fluid yourself?

There are a ton of posts on here on how to do it, sating way back into the 2Gen trucks.... I'll see if I can find a link or 2....
This one is a "must read"...!!
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-drain-refill-automatic-transmission.63851/

It takes a little reading and learning to understand the process; however, it is not hard to do, once you understand it..!!

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.
Mine does it. Had dealer do fluid level check ages ago. The dealer topped it up (I've forgotten how much was added) so theoretically I should be okay on fluid level. It still does it.

Characteristic of the vehicle. A TSB would be great but I'm not too hopeful.

^^^^ That... Axle wrap.... sounds like a basketball in the back sometimes but not always? Axle wrap...

There's a mid shaft on the drive line with a some bearings in it.... its there so when your axle and rear end move some there is play in the driveline so shit don't break. What happens is when you come to a stop the rear axle sometimes flexes or rotates just a little bit. That little flex is taken up by the Carrier Bearing... the rear axle slides in and out at the carrier bearing... what happens is the carrier bearing doesn't always move smoothly, it releases all at once ... and not all the time causing the thump sound .... annoying...yes. I solved it with Icon progressive AALs and a new set of Bilstein 5100 shocks.... problem solved.

Also there could be some loose suspension parts .... from the factory that help this problem...

Getting a new or upgraded rear suspension doesn't "sound" right since its a new truck... going to cut to the chase and fix it instead of messing with the dealership whom likely will do nothing for you. Just sayin! ...on the brite side.... the truck will ride a shit ton better.. thank me later..... and problem solved and lifted!

Not all of them. I have never had my truck do that. I had the constant shifting on the highway, but that was fixed with the Rev1 .

Several other threads on this . I and others seem to think the TSB's are trying to mask and overcome manufacturing or design flaws .
