No kidding. Turn vehicle off, keys on dash, windows down and hands on steering wheel. Cops deal with a lot of a-holes some of which are always trying to kill them. No need to make them more nervous than they already are.

Unless you're running limo tint, Remember too, Anything that looks out of the ordinary puts a LEO on higher alert.... All part of the training.
Experience has taught him/her that Everyone is a lying scum bag with an angle and something to hide.

Who drives around with all their windows down at night ? I don't, Damn sure the cop don't.

Makes a guy wonder.... why ?

"What are ya doin', trying to air out the pot smell ?" Trying to wake up from a drunken stupor ? Throw something out the window ?
Get rid of evidence or contaband ? Looking for a way out ? Need better visability to see where you're gonna shoot ?
Someone down low in the back gonna jump out at him ?

Now be a real man and tell them you have a gun on you without being asked... oh yeah, right.
He already assumes you are armed and has run a check on you before he came to your window to see what he's dealing with.

Keep your mouth shut, smile and be pleasant while he/she runs their routine at their pace without distracting them.
Answer looking in their eyes with utmost respect.

Nothing worse than trying to take in 100 different bits of info in a split second alone in the dark in traffic while someone is jabbering away at you straight out of the gate and one of the words he/she hears is GUN.

So u think that saying nothing if u have your licensed weapon hidden or not is the best idea?

I don’t care if the officer considers me or everyone a criminal, I don’t want to have to say secondarily, “Oh and I have my concealed weapon in here also.”

Might as well tell them up front so at least they know u have it.

Remember if u have done nothing wrong then u shouldn’t worry. But being upfront is the best policy especially if u have done nothing wrong.

Funny though, I’ve never been pulled over doing nothing wrong. Improper u-turn, improper passing and speeding all by the age of 18..... I’m 39 now with no tickets since.

Abide by the laws and u really shouldn’t b getting pulled over, unless u have a taillight or brake light out.

I remember reading an article about practices that will lessen you chance of getting a traffic ticket.

A small consideration, but if you do get pulled over, move your vehicle as far into the shoulder as possible.

The person walking up to you window will likely appreciate not having to stand with their back at the edge of moving traffic.

    Fwiw....

I had a headlight out once and a turn signal out another time.
I explained to the officer that "If I were stopping a vehicle with tinted windows at night I would like to know what or who is in there, which is why I rolled down the windows."
He thanked me and said he appreciated it.

I agree anything u can do to let them feel more at ease is best. That’s what I feel is the best to do.

No reason in surprising someone or seeming like u aren’t being open and honest. It is the best policy to not give anyone a reason to question u or your intentions.

A back step for when I get older, Carhartt seatcovers, 4Runner wheels, Topper, and "tats all folks"! --for now!!

Maybe that's why Toyota did NOT add a light -- fishing around in your glovebox "before the officer tells you to is asking to see the end of whatever kind of a gun he has on his/her belt -- think first before you do this! They do not know you are NOT going for your weapon! NOT a good idea --"have all that crap ready"

I went thru the same route --with the exact same results --seems like Toyota does NOT want a locking cap on the 3rd gens!!??

Here's my 2 cents. I don't defend the truck enough on this forum so here it goes:

Its a truck, not a Mercedes. Most cars out there wouldn't have survived the shit I've already put my '16 Taco through. Sure, it may not have all the amenities a 44k luxury car has, but if you didn't do the research to realize that the only differentiating my 30k dollar truck from your 45k dollar truck was some upgraded suspension, headlights, and leather seats, thats on you. I actually think its pretty charming that the base model Tacoma is pretty capable compared to the Limited/Pro models, save for some minor creature comforts.
