Anyone else get color envy?

I fell in love with tacomas the first time I saw back to the future...well I didn't see it in theaters as I'm not quite old enough to have. When I got mine used the only one available with the features I wanted was white and crew cab...it actually does stay cooler in hot texas summers than my darker cars did and that larger back has come in major handy...but damn.....all black tacomas with the bed bars, lights, and bar bumpers...and access cabs just look cooler to me. I mean I AM partial to all black vehicles too, they just look bad ass!! I was drooling over the concept '16 bttf truck.

But yeah when I see an all black tacoma of any year, especially 1st gen of course, I'm staring XD

 

Army Green > All other colors.

Although I call it Marine Green since I am a Marine Corps Veteran.

 

I love my Cement, specially during snow days. But I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t love to have that Army Green or the Voodo Blue. Barcelona Red would be good too.

 

White was the only available but it’s really growing on me.

 

Wanted Inferno, Cement or Army Green. The only 2 colors that were available at the time of purchase were Black Or Super White. Chose Super White as Black looks awesome but tough to keep clean.

To be honest I love all the colors offered by Toyota on the Tacoma. Could you imagine owning them all and having a different color to drive for any day or mood.

 

I wanted cement or lunar rock, settled for silver.

 

I wanted super white and that's what I ended up with- love it.

But I have a feeling in 20 years the 'iconic' color synonymous with these trucks will be Cavalry Blue. For example, when I think of a bugeye WRX the color I associate with it is World Rally Blue. Or an e46 m3 in Leguna Seca Blue, Rosso Corsa F40, Inca 2002, etc...

A Cavalry Blue 6mt Pro will be the 'collector' spec imo- if ever there is such a thing.

 

I am a guitar player and buying a new guitar is similar to getting a new truck. The first thing I notice when considering buying a guitar (or truck) is the color and how pretty it looks. I strum it for a bit at the guitar store (i.e similar to the test drive), but I really don't know if it's a good fit until I take it home and really play with it for awhile! And now that I think about it, the same holds true for women!

BTW, i am a sucker for red guitars and admit getting a bit worked up when I see a smoking hot candy apple red Stratocaster on the wall at Guitar Center. I get that same feeling when i see an Inferno Taco drive by!

 

Over the years I've had magnetic gray metallic, silver streak mica, barcelona red metallic, midnight black metallic, barcelona red again, and I've had my super white since 2019. I bought white just to change it up a bit and three years later I'm regretting it big time out of fear my paint will start flaking off like these folks (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/consolidated-super-white-040-paint-issue-failure-thread.689940/). Trying to get an allocation for a Pro in any color or a loaded Sport in barcelona red at multiple dealers with no success yet. If I had to pick one, barcelona red is my all-time favorite color on the Tacoma.

 

I don't particularly like the color of my truck depending on the light. It's alright, not my least favorite. I got it because I got a crazy deal on it. I get compliments on it probably just because it stands out but I would rather have Army Green or Inferno. Inferno preferably because Army Green is also a touch light and pasty under certain lighting conditions, but it looks great most of the time. My last tacoma was Barcelona Red Metallic and I always loved that color too. I think it looks great with black wheels.

If I do have some good things to say about the Voodoo Blue, its that it never looks dirty from daily driving, it completely hides scratches somehow, and the paint itself is surprisingly thick and durable, much more so than my last red Tacoma. My red one looked scratched to shit just from my driveway (I live way down in the woods so lots of branches and such), this one has been going in and out every day for two years and it still looks new.

My least favorites are Kia green, Lunar Rock (I'm sorry but it looks like a color a middle aged woman would like ) and Quicksand. Cement I don't like it on standard trucks but it's not bad on a Pro or a blacked out XP Predator.

Sometimes I think what it would be like to have MGM, but then I go outside and see my white Tacoma and all is well

 

We can all agree Lunar Rock wins. its like Cement, but with a hint of green so has almost everyone's popular colors all in one.

I had to clean my glasses... Looking at the grille, I thought my face was melting, or my lenses were warped.

 

I always try to encourage people to always be patient and stick to your first choice. This way there's no chance of having color envy.

 

Yeah, I lack patience. And here I am, day dreaming about AG.

 

Happy with cement. Liked calavry blue, but wasn't an option in 2020, so that made my decision easier. If I were looking at a 2022, I'd hold out for lunar rock.

 

There's really no such thing as a wrong favorite color. Unless your favorite is anything other than Army/Marine Green, then you're just plain wrong.
