If it is "deez nuts", my truck won't be going in for the recall. I'll check them during routine maintenance. If it's a problem with open recalls when or if I sell the truck, the dealer can look at it then since I am selling it anyway and don't really care what happens to it. I did the same thing with a Chevy I had. Recall of rear window defog. I had the truck outfitted for service work and it was going to be a huge pain to clear out what was in there so they could look at it. When I went to sell it I had removed all what was added and brought it to the dealer. Case closed.

Funny, I had been waiting for the 2024 new truck for a year. Then in January I got a great deal on a 2023 SR5 Double Cab Silver Technology Package 4X4, V6 no extra junk from a SE toyota distributor. 38K. Got 16K for a Rav4 2017 100K on the clock. So far 1100 miles and this is just a really good truck. It accelerates with no hesitation passes easily on the highway. I got underneath the truck yesterday and bolts look and feel fine. But my wife is saying ain.t this wonderful you waited and waited and boom you buy and then a recall. I did tell her the Rav4 has a recall over the battery bracket and still didn't have a fix as of the day I traded it in. I am not worried. I love this truck. I cannot find any reports of crashes from any outlets as of today. You would think someone who had the issue might report. Soooo...

I have calmed down now after looking at what could be the problem. Having been a Chevy owner for years, recalls usually are a thing of nightmares. A long list of repairs that don't actually address the problem or make things worse. Been there, done that. Looks like to me that Toyota has a possible problem. I bet someone working on the line noticed this slag thought it could be a problem and put it in the suggestions box. Now it's been blown out of proportion by some safety committee. The formal solution will be something like " Yeah, it's not a problem, bring it in for maintenance and we'll have a tech check it out" Or my other line of thought is that Toyota management is thinking, "Shit, we need to make the 3rd gen look like it might have a problem or we're going to have a hard time selling 4th gens!"

So is it the nuts that’s the issue or the welding or both?

Never know until people get recall notice in the mail, probraly in April 2024, next month. That’s what I was told by my Toyota dealer, no remedy yet.

It amazes me that each wheel is held on by these 4 bolts.

I'm more shocked that it does that job with just 33lbft on the bolts. I replaced the front hubs on my 135 last summer. Those are also held on by just 4 bolts, but the bolts come with preapplied loctite and then you torque them to 110Nm (81lbft)

I called my local dealership and they said they did not have a fix yet so I should wait for notification. I suspect they need to be, or want to be, informed more specifically exactly what their technicians should be looking for.

Confirmed with Toyota Canada I'm on the list. 2022 TRD OR MT AC ( :canada: ) built in July 2022 in Guanajuato.
Was at two Kootenay BC dealers today (one for service and one looking at a 2024 4Runner) and neither had heard about the recall notice yet.

    Well darn.

Look at pics post #127 welding slag, beads could be under nut and prevent proper torque

To be the “well technically..” guy, the issue is spatter, not slag. :anonymous:
