I inspected the area and all screws, bolts, nuts that could lead to the described catastrophic failure. Thanks to the drawings presented by other TW members, that was easy. It does boil down to the four screws mentioned. I looked at the seating of the nuts, if they had made any movements or travel, took a wrench and tried to move them to see if they were actually lose. None of them were. I re-torqued them to 45NM and put some torque-stripe on them. This will indicate in future if the nuts or bolts have moved (hence the torque-stripe from the nut to a fixed part and not from the nut to the bolt). Will inspect next tire rotation and see what I find. As mentioned by other TW members, it is not that easy with the torque there, as the axle is a bit in the way. If using a craw foot, you have to recalculate your torque. But all no drama.
    Hope that helps.

.. and welcome to the world of recalls. It is much like CMA. If the result of a damage could be catastrophic, rather invest $$$$$$$$ on prevention by recall (or safety advisory) and accept the reputational damage to the company (difficult to damage the reputation of Toyota or the 3rd gen Tacoma anyways) than get sued for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ later by 1 out of 1826735476483635 satisfied customers running the same truck. That is also owed to the judicial system which allows crazy amount of penalties. But who determines what a life is worth?

Check the bolts, re-torque them, go to the stealership if you like and get it over with - and enjoy driving the 3rd gen Tacoma again!

I just checked my APP and owner's section and no recalls. Mine was built in 02/2022, and I picked up on 03/13/22.

Almost 46k and ZERO issues besides rocks and nails eating my tires up.

I’m new to owning a truck. (Traded in my mini van) When you say locks up on hills and mountains is it making a clicking noise? I have noticed when I’m stopped on a steep hill then release the brake to gas and go sometimes it rolls as I’m doing this and starts clicking while I’m pressing the gas. No way around it as I have to release the brake to give it gas.

Let's say I hypothetically lift my Tacoma, would I still be eligible for this recall?

No, that sounds like your ABS kicking in. I mean like my rear tires will lock up on a steep downhill and screech.
