Interesting they would go to a file flat method. I know its not a huge amount but you'd still get some measurable angle applied to the flat surface manually filing it. Surprised they didn't figure out some sort of device that uses the bolt hold as a guide and a tool like a deburring thing to remove it in a more precise manner.

I went to my appointment to dealer this past Saturday at 9:40 am, I got out at 11:44 am. 2 hours, I could have taken shuttle home, but still cannot go anywhere, so I waited.
Faster way would be changing nuts, but they said have to order. I looked at ends of rear axle, they look clean both sides. I don’t see file marks on axle nuts.‍♂️

My app indicated 2 days ago that I should call for an appointment...did that today. The contact person scheduled me for April 25. She seemed to be in a foul mood...don't know if it was work related or a bad hair day!!!

Dealer told me they needed my VIN to order parts but didn't say which, and will call me when they arrive to schedule an appointment. Haven't gone in for them to see anything either, I wonder what parts they plan to replace

Nuts for flange side ends of rear axle, how many got welding debris, I do not know.
My coworker's work 3rd gen Tacoma got the same recall notice. Toyota dealer told my work, they have to order parts, then schedule, I assume.

I checked mine the paint marks applied by the factory are all still lined up correctly and torque is good. I will probably just check mine each time I change the oil. I can’t see taking mine to the dealer to just have something damaged when I leave there.

I have had bad luck with dealer service department. I can take my truck in for one issue and leave with two more.

Took the truck in yesterday to a local Toyota dealer here in Raleigh NC, I will say they are a top notch outfit. Very good mechanics. I know many of them personally. They inspected both rear axles up on lift. All 8 nuts passed the toyota recall inspection specs. Not much slag and all nuts were inspected underneath, retorqued to factory specs. Test drove, sent me on my way. 2:55 pm drop off done and in truck at 4:35. So i'm now done with this recall. I can load repair ticket if anyone is interested.

Does your repair ticket give the torque spec they used? The service manual indicates 33 ft. Lbs. I’m just curious have they increased the torque for the recall.

I know how many retaining nuts on rear axle sides. But my bad, typo. I should have wrote, “I don’t know how many rear side axle nuts have welding debris, or no more.”

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
I got the recall taken care of today.

Took the dealer two hours. They were doing an overall vehicle inspection then inspecting the recalled part.

They said they didn't find any weld spatter there and retorqued the axle nuts. I got told I was good to go and the recall is now taken care of.

If the part has to be recalled though, I would have needed to take my truck back home while they order the part, then take my truck back in again once that part arrives

I’ve been speaking to the assistant manager of the service department on this. He told me that Toyota would not just send them bulk parts and that the inspection had to be done that then they could order the parts needed. I was told they could get them in a day or two.
