2016 is not included in the recall so you won’t be getting the notification.

Dealer looked at mine (late MY 23, last of the production) and didnt find any weld splatter and went thru the protocol of inspect, remove, retorque. They said of the hundreds that have come in so far they have seen no splatter that is of concern for nuts.

Just throwing it on here for anyone who is concerned.

Just took my '23 OR in this morning. They didn't find any issues.

The service advisor said they have had a couple that they had to perform the recall on. He said it was basically those bolts like everyone's been talking about and they keep them in stock.

Took about an hour from check-in to check-out.

Took mine in this morning. No issues found. Service guy said that they haven't found any problem ones yet.

Got letter yesterday. Called dealer to make sure they had parts if needed for recall. Their comment "What Parts?" Made appointment for 8:45 am today. They told me I could probably wait for it. Instead, dropped truck off & went to breakfast w/ wife. When they wrote up the order, they said they would rotate tires since it had 5k miles on it & do the recall. I declined the rotation, was just done at 4800. Called & called- truck not ready. Went by at noon w/ wife, truck still sitting in same parking spot. Finally at 2:30pm, truck is ready. Service guy hands me keys & says I'm good- they rotated my tires. What? I just had them rotated a week ago with an oil change! What about the recall? Oops- looks like we didn't do the recall. Says they can't get to it today but will re-rotate tires back the way they were. 1 hour later & that's done. Want me to bring it back tomorrow for the recall. No can do- I have shit to do, I'll call you. I'll have to try next week I guess & loose another day.
    I fucking hate the dealerships!

All that f'ng around, I bet you hate dealerships! This is one of my fears having to go to the dealership. I will snap if I have an appointment and they don't get to it, I will not be losing another day, they can stay late and get it done as promised. IDGAF! I have checked it out myself and there's no problem on my truck, so I really don't see the need to go in the first place. And yes I am a mechanic.

Every trip to dealer has been a shitshow. That would include the whole Karr alarm fiasco & dead batteries on a new truck. These fuckers couldn't fix a loose lug nut. Every dealer trip has been an all day affair, even with early appointments.

I hate dealerships, I refuse to let them do the free oil changes and tire rotation I do it myself. If I have a warranty issue if it’s a small issue I also do that. What you went through is the same crap I deal with every time I have ever had dealings with them.

I have a gen1 that I let the dealership change the oil on like three times and once I pulled out heard the skid pan rattling pulled over and three bolts missing. I went straight back and was told sorry we can’t find them will order new ones and call you. That did it for me no more stealerships unless there is no other way.

As far as the recall on my 23 did it myself and they can leave there little notification on my app I don’t care. I will have it done before I sell it.

Yea, I argued with them- you have time to put it on a lift the 2nd time to swap wheels again but no time to check the recall wile up there? I was pissed! I had a local shop do my oil change I use all the time. They had a special sale of $65 for oil change w/ Mobil 1, used my OEM filter & free rotation. Kind of a no brainer for me being disabled now.
I swear I want to install a go pro under the truck & bring it back. 50/50 chance it sits all day & they don't fix shit.

I am sorry to hear you are disabled. Sounds like you have a good place to get your oil changed. The Go Pro is a good idea would love to see someone catch them on video.

Oddly the message first showed up when I first started the truck after they did the recall service. Then it disappeared and haven’t seen it since.

Took mine in today..almost 4 hours wait time because they said it was about the worst they had seen in terms of amount of debris they removed around EVERY nut and bolt. So, all 8 nuts/bolts replaced, debris removed, everything torqued down and good to go...I hope☺ on the way home I started humming..." Nuts and bolts, nuts and bolts, did I just get screwed??"

The shop is great, family owned & it seems everyone working there has a Tacoma or Tundra.

it’s freakin nuts that they would go through the process of jacking it up, rotate the tires and park it back. It wouldn’t cross their mind that a simple rotation as a small random work order?

I’m treading taking mine in on Saturday

I can't understand how this could happen unless the service manager was completely inept in writing up the order and the techs couldn't read.

Is this the same dealer you bought your Tacoma? If not, it happens with all new car dealerships, not only Toyota. All BS. For any reason buy brand new from one dealer, then go to another dealer for warranty, recalls, or even service, get BS.

Mine was built in March 2023 and has splatter around the nuts so the most likely means that it's also under the nuts. I just hope that don't make things worse by chiseling and filing the axle flange gouging it up or making it out of square so the nuts don't have a flat even surface.

Remove the eight nuts one at a time if you see spatter gently chisel it off and replace then re-torque to 41 ft. lbs. then you know it’s done right.
