Yeah, my 2022 TRD Sport has a recall on it, I’ll update with the build date later. Good thing I still have my old F-150 to drive to work until Toyota figures out the fix.

Mine is on the list too. I've gone 27k Kms so far without a problem. It makes me sick thinking of bringing my truck into the dealer. I plan on keeping this truck until it gets scrapped so once there is more info out there on the actual problem I'll check it myself. Weld splatter? They wouldn't replace the entire rear diff for that. Probably a grind smooth and reassemble. Thanks but I'll take care of that myself.

So I just got under there and gave it a shot with a 1/2" torque wrench. It's too big. Gonna need a 3/8", which I don't have. The struts are in the way and and even with s 6" extension, the u bolt bracket is in the way as well.

The nuts are 14mm for anyone wondering.

Might need a shallow 14mm with a 3/8" torque wrench. I guess if I wanted to, I could just get a normal 14mm wrench and get her cranked, but now I'm chasing 27ft lbs lol the one on each side I was able to do had a quarter turn each until 27ft lbs, so I'd guess mine were at 23-25ft lbs??

Anyway, here's a look at the "welding debris". If I saw this on my own, no recall, wouldn't really raise any alarms to me, but I'm no welder

Update on my earlier post, my Tacoma, the one in my profile pic, has an August 2022 build date. In regards to the photos of the “weld debris” in the post above this one, if they are leaving weld spatter like that on the outside where everyone can see it, it makes me wonder what kind of mess is on the inside of that diff.

I think I'll check mine tomorrow and then forget about it. I'm still getting recall cards for something I fixed myself on my '02 impala. lol

Here's a pic of my 2021's area of concern. Looking for a difference in assembly.

Does it look like there's a washer in between the nut...or is it a one-piece?

dead after 13 months. Truck sat for 1 week last week and it wasn't particularly cold (Massachusetts) for February. I noticed it was starting to slow crank before that week. Everything else was fine but the battery. They replaced it with a 84 month true start.

Thanks for the pic. I can see where a small metal glob could inhibit proper torquing of a single nut, but IMO it would be a stretch to result in all four nuts being loose. In any case, not a biggie to check. I reckon I'll have to check the calibration om my 3/8" torque wrench.

Lmk how it goes. Don't really want to buy another torque wrench just for this if the stealership will retorque 8 weeks from now. They don't seem like they're going anywhere honestly.

Although it does beg the question, at enough torque (not sure how much it would be) wouldn't the nut "squish" the debris/splatter? It doesn't seem concentrated enough to impede the nut in my case

i have a '22 AC Sport MT and my VIN is not coming up on the recall. :bananadance:. doesn't sound like a big deal but i'd like to avoid having to travel to the dealership.

i'm going to ignore it unless i get an email or a notification in the mail.

I threw a shallow 14mm socket on my normal ratchet and gave all of the bolts a small tug. Only 2 on the driver side moved a hair. Prob just because I was over the 27 ft pounds. Being on my back with just a 12 inch ratchet I can't really apply that much force but In my opinion everything is tight. The 2 that moved I prob ended up over tightening a bit.

My rear end shifts when I go over any crack/ungulation at speeds over 40 mph.

Can you clarify your response "wouldn't be?". My rear is in bad shape according to the alignment check

While you’re under there. Check your diff gasket and axle seals for any signs of leakage.
