Right, I believe in getting things done right when possible. Otherwise, good 'nuff works for me in situations like this! haha

This is photo of rear axle flange. Nobody sprays road salt, or whatever in my location, no need. Paint marks from factory still there, did not move. I put socket wrench on flange nuts, they are tight.

Found that link to the 3rd Gen service manual. Download the PDF to your workstation.
It has 11,292 pages so opening in a web browser is both slow and problematic.

My copy has no cover page or index, and appears to be a partial lift from a more complete PDF.
It still has a huge amount of useful information.

    https://www.toyota.com/recall

I entered my VIN and got the recall notice.
My production date is October 2023.

Just looked at mines and is the pink dot supposed to line up with the green mark?

Just replacing to be safe, and make sure there isn't any welding spatter on the mating surface preventing the nuts from sitting flush against the flange. I imagine that Toyota will probably just inspect the flange and nut in this manner, and re-torque to a higher value. an M10 x 1.25 (assuming Toyota used the cheapest quality stud and nut for the application of Grade 8.8) Should be right around 36 ft-lb.

    I am replacing with these

You know, while y'all are under there - if you happen to move them a bit yourself while tightening or correcting may be a good idea to do a repaint of a set mark. That way you can tell if it's still creeping around after you touch it ??? If you come back later and only see un-matched factory marks... may cause unneeded concern.

Does anybody on here actually have a problem with this? 9 pages at this point and nobody has said they found the nuts loose enough to be a problem.

I was thinking about checking and putting my torque wrench to them. But honestly I hope the wheel and axle fall off, it would cement my decision in getting a new truck and I'd probably have a couple 100 Grand from the lawsuit.:p

In all reality we don't even know if the bolts everyone is referencing are actually part of the recall

The recall references nuts, not bolts. Also, it is fairly specific as to the location and cause, which is welding spatter causing the nuts to loosen and fall off. I looked around under there, and do not see any other areas where welding Debris would even interfere with any nuts. Just the ends of the axle tube where it welds to the flange for the axle retaining bolts, which also hold the backing plate for the drum brake assembly and bearing

... and if it does indeed turn out to be that the recall is "deez nuts" that we're all referring to, and the first recall step is to just have the dealer check torque, I may not even do that. I'll just make it part of the quick underneath check and do it every oil change, like looking at the U bolts, whatever else...

If they seem to loosen on their own over extended times, I'll go from there, but really... addressing this at home is almost easier than a rear diff oil change.

(can you tell I really don't want to go to a dealer for this :p )

Yup. Just replace the nuts with a Nyloc or serrated flange nut. torque to 36 ft-lb. Make sure there isn't any welding debris/spatter where the nut meets the axle flange. job done.

Oh yeah, those exist on every forum. I was an automotive tech for 20 years, 15 of those with an ASE Master certification, so needless to say, I am my warranty. When something simple like this pops up, I just fix it and move on.
