I'm just a drum brake hater. I'd much prefer 4 wheel discs, so much easier to work on, more efficient. The Taco has the best stopping distance in its class, but it can be better. Like I said above, the Taco is the only Toyota without 4 wheel discs. Am I wrong on that?

I'd like to have 4 wheel discs on a 4055 lb truck. I was surprised the 2012 didn't have 4 wheel discs. I still bought the truck and I know it's a good solid truck, but I would have really liked to have that upgrade from my 1990 Toyota truck.

Ok, so I've read all the previous posts, sounds like now the posts are a disc vs drum issue for the rears. From a manufacturing stand point (and I'm no expert) us TW members and everyone else has to understand this, I too like rear discs but on a Tacoma no. Drum brakes are tried and true, ya they can get gumbed up with mud and all that crap, water also makes them fade and unresponsive unless you drag your brakes to dry them off. My brother recked his old Maverick with front and rear drums because he drove through standing water and hit the brakes to stop, but only the left front grabbed and spun him around into the ditch.

We as TW and Toyota lovers have to remember, Toyota keped the rear drums for a reason, the 8 inch rear axle with the locker was based off the 1st gen Tacoma offroad pickup with drum brakes. The Sport 8.4 axles was based off the T-100 and was also drum brakes which Toyota used. If anything Toyota didn't swap for disc's because they are a simple setup and have been for years, and would have been lots of money for Toyota to switch over also. Ya the FJ has rear discs. My parents F-350 has them also. Drums are good brakes from the big rig that delivers you food to, the semi's that brought your truck to your Toyota dealer.

    Thanks,

    Brett
